bigtwinthing wrote:Thank you Guys. Well next week i have a 360 driving job for 3 days. Then after the ski holiday i have a week off then 5 days Driving an HGV 1 delivering Tractors. No overnights so thats good. I shall look forward to it. Then possibly the rest of the month Off. Hopefully on the bike each day. Apparently HGV Drivers are in very short supply down here. Be odd finding 16 gears in an Artic after the Auto boxes in an RCV
No shortage of drivers I'm told just a huge shortage of above NMW (national minimum wage) jobs about .
Who wants to drive a class 2 or 1 for £7:50 ph !!
I know I won't for less than £11ph

HGV 1 has been offered to me today for £14.00 hr for container work which is easy. I want to maybe go back to local Plant delivery and collection , 360,s and Dumpers etc. i may give it a go for a few months. The agency have guaranteed me 10 hrs a day too! Thats not too bad.

i had no complaints about my pay, however the expectation and the hrs were crap. They have had 5 guys in 4 years doing my job. I have lasted the longest. However they want a "Jump " and then i am meant to ask "How High please" that aint me, i don't compromise on staff being safe and having the correct gear to do there job.

I hated our huge business lunches, free booze etc, expenses but can't buy a trolley jack for a workshop.

It was full of people that were brimming with "Self Importance" i always used to say "Self praise is no praise"

I told my boss Monday that he was a "Legend in his own lunchtime" what a tool he was. So glad to be out.

 Kudos to you Paul. That's how it should be and far too many companies make cut backs etc and compromise on things like safety. It's not like they blatantly break health and safety laws (most of the time) but they ride a very thin line and what is considered OK by H&S laws does not mean something is as safe as it can be.

Lets hope this new job works out and they don't try pushing you to drive more hours than your allowed. You could be the last batch of human drivers. It wont be long before that industry is taken over by bots and automated vehicles. They can drive 24/7 with no breaks and are cheaper to employ. I don't have any issues with bots taking all the jobs as I believe we shouldn't be forced to go to work to earn money to survive, but what I do have issues with, is that there is no substitute for jobs so humans can live apart from benefits and they will get less as less folk are out there earning the money to put in the pot. Governments need to come up with a new system for folk to start living life. A replacement for money which is not charitable food banks and benefits.
