insurance!!!
insurance!!!
So after a 2yr break I'm getting back on bike....shop around for insurance and get a phone call from bewiser about some quotes...the thing is my no claims discount is no longer valid according to them because I had a break from biking..now is that true or ar they trying to get me to pay as much as they can?
Didn't think you can loose your no claims unless you crash or do something stupid and claim
Anyway they want 600.27 for a comprehensive policy and 417.23 for 3rd party fire&theft seems ridiculous considering I was paying 112 for year fully comp! Is it true that you loose the no claims?
It seems robbery to me !!!

Re: insurance!!!
Outrageous price. I'm with mce, excess is very high but £92:00 fully comp with 4 yrs ncb. Or just google go compare or compare the market.
SO WHEN DOES THIS OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER KICK IN
Re: insurance!!!
Does protected protected no claims if an insurance company offers this prevent this or does that simply protect your no claims if a claim is made. The whole insurance industry is a scam. The crazy thing is that it's worth getting a cheap insurance policy before the two years even if you don't ride just to keep the no claims. It would be cheaper than starting from scratch. Maybe keep an old wrecked C90 for the purpose of being insured. LOL That would be cheap.

SH#T HAPPENS!!!!!!!!
Re: insurance!!!
As above, sadly it's true.
I'm about a month past the 2 year cut-off point so instead of £120.00/Year I'm now paying £330.00 (Hastings direct via compare the meerkat or one of those other sites)

Re: insurance!!!
I got really lucky year before last.. I had gone about 2 1/2 years without a car on the road and my bike was on a classic policy... good bye NCD. Went to insure a van I bought and was getting quotes up and around a grand.. while shopping around I phoned Adrian Flux, had a quote off them for £900 odd then out of the blue guy on phone asked if I can hold for a few mins.. came back asking about my previous car.. told them I had an old Mitsubishi Pajero that's right he said.. we insured it on a specialist 4x4 policy.. asked what I had driven since the Pajero, told them hadn't had a car in between and only had a bike on a classic policy and basically they honoured my previous NCD which happened to be 9 years. Couldn't believe my luck :-)
On a side note.. for anyone getting hammered at quote time due to lack of NCD on a bike it can be worth going for a classic policy. Footman James do classic for anything over 15 years.. full comp, euro travel.. all the bits plus you can add to the policy and a very good price too.. for example.. if you have 2 classics on a policy they will let you add a modern. Last time I was with them I was paying about £190.. that was 2 storms, one of them having a agreed value of £2200, all mods declared.. unlimited miles, cover for leathers/helmet etc.

Re: insurance!!!
Ive known people to buy just a frame from eBay with a V5 to register and insure, just to keep their NCB...
Re: insurance!!!
I haven't insured a road bike since the 1990's so nothing in the way of no claims to transfer and I've just been quoted £148 fully comp for a 1998 VTR1000 & a 1990 FZR1000 Exup with 6,000 miles across both bikes.
With the price of car insurance these days I was delighted with that.

Rappelez tout mais ne pardonner rien!!
Re: insurance!!!
Well after a never ending conversation with the people from bewiser I decided to compare and managed to sort it out at 100.47 for year fully comp with all the bits attached
So happy chapy
They accepted my no claims as I was under 2yrs...it seemed longer to me but hey all is good

Re: insurance!!!
I only had 1 years NCB. I used MCE and managed to have roadside cover included for £144 TPFT. I think that was reasonable. I am also younger than most of you

If you don't try you never know if you can do it.
Re: insurance!!!
Your job will go a long way towards getting cheap insurance. If you was a self employed actor it would be double, or if you was a doctor it may be half as much again. If your a magistrate it would be even lower....heck they may even give it to you for next to nothing. Discrimination at it's best...insurance. They most likely take your race and religion into consideration too.

Re: insurance!!!
Quite possibly. Although I had a job related crash two years ago and it unfortunately was recorded as my fault. However it did not really seem to affect me.

Re: insurance!!!
Im on a classic policy with fj.
I have a brood of classic german scooters(zundapp) so on my policy i had 10 zundapps, 1 lambretta, then i added my 99 blade. Just renewed and added my storm 1 and now all insured for about £250 on a classic policy, with leather and lid cover and agreed value on all machines!!!!!
