ok very long story short. need a new rear wheel for my spondon swingarm. so gona use a more modern? rear. iv googled myself to dead on bearings to make a storm wheel fit .

and im loosing the will to live.. of hand ,anybody know of a bike that uses a 28mm rear axle? id prefare a 3 spoke..


cakes and buns if anybody can give me a heads up..

Can't think of any, had a quick look but no listing on wheels with that size, it's more sprocket carrier bearing size, for example a 6001 bearing has a 52mm O/D which is very big for a wheel.

Why not get interference fit sleeves in the wheel spindle cups and make up new spacers, then you can pick your size of spindle, you may still need to get a spindle made the right length though.

I have triumph 675 wheels, but rear is still 5,5. It is not direct fit, wheels and caliper bracket spacer needed. Maybe some other older triumphs have the same axle diameter.

well now iv found, i think lol 2008/9 R6 yamahas run a 28mm rear axle. so iv now to find out if the wheel,disc and sprocket carrier. the whole dam lot will fit into the spondon swinger...

poppers.... im trying to leave the spondon swingarm carriers for the axle as is if at all poss, it at least gives me a known bit that works....

Stephen.. im happy to run a 5.5 rear rim if i can get one to fit, the bike at the min with the other swinger fitted is running a standard storm wheel anyhow..

I believe you can use wheels with larger axle diameter, using right bearings with the same outer diameter, and 28mm inner ... Just be sure bearings of that size are available.

Using deep groove ball bearings gives you more alternatives, you can find bearings with the outer diameter to fit the wheel but use a larger diameter spindle.
I had to do this when fitting a 954 fork set and an SP1 six spoke wheel to get everything to fit.

iv googled my life away and still no further on lol... to get bearings that fit the axle but with the same outer as a storm is like finding a 5 legged dog..

and google as good as it is. is complete bollox for finding out axle sizes on other bikes. nut sizes oh no bother but the actual axle size .

im now at the stage i keep the swingarm i have in it with the storm wheel... or if i use the spondon swinger ,hope to find a wheel from something else no matter how many spokes it has


iv gave the dymag thing a lot of thought and,,, its just not something im happy doing. maybe as a track bike used a few times a year but this is a working bike for the road.

To recognize axle diameter on various bikes, you only need to find what bearing is used, then you google Its inner size. Maybe dimensions are described on OEM parts pages like ronayers etc.

flatty those dymags are a thing of great beauty they really are... and yes they should be on my bike ... but i never really got to the bottom of why mine let go and that worries me , a lot.... but i do really like them

wicky. you get the buns... iv checked the yamaha r6 ones and its confussion with different sizes listed here and there.. but the SRAD ones i never thought of ..

thats gives me a lot more scope now as the bearing are a pain to get for the storm wheel/spondon axle...

im not letting this wheel thing beat me, i need that swinger back in lol



so after checking... the thou rear wheels are a million pounds. the TDM wrong tyre size. but the SRADs looking like the job
