Any difference between 2005 and 2006?
Any difference between 2005 and 2006?
Just shopping for sprockets and other bits and pieces, everything seems listed for a specific year?
Re: Any difference between 2005 and 2006?
Not the sprockets they will be the same...
Differences between the F & the F2 onwards...
F2...
Bigger tank, Different clocks, HISS system fitted, different loom to accomadate clocks, HISS ect, the ECU is different, the undertray is differnt as the ECU & spark box are both fitted to the subframe on the side & therefore the subframe is slightly diffrent as it has extra lugs...The fairing mounts are diff as pressed steel rather than the ally ones on the F. The gear linkage rod is also diffrent... The indicators are different & also have block conectors rather than bullet conectors...
There are other detail points like diffrent colour callipers & casings diff colours...
So all in all whilst a lot of parts are interchangable between F & F2 (the face lift bikes)
05 & 06 are the same...

Re: Any difference between 2005 and 2006?
Production I believe ended in 2005 - and any 2006 storms are late registered mainly later models.
Check the VIN for year of manufacture to be sure, but as stated the VTR was divided by early and late model changes in 2001 with small changes and yearly licks of paint (plus UK special Anniversary limited edition).

Cheers guys, exactly what i needed.Ended up ordering the parts i was hovering over.
On a side note, is there much difference between the UK bikes and the US ones?
I just got a workshop manual printed up for me (cost me about $40) without looking at the file first, and what was titled 2005 vtr1000f ended up being friggen '98-2003 Firehawk!
VIN on my bike is stamped as 12/06.

VIN only has a No. for year of manufacture - not sure where you got the month as well. Check the VIN plate on the frame.
e.g. JH2: country of production (JH2=WMI Honda Japan, 1HF=Honda America, ZDC=Honda Italy, VTM=Montesa/Honda Spain)
SC36: type = VTR1000F)
A or B: early or late version
4: control number (1-9 or X)
T: year (T=1996, V=1997, W=1998, X=1999, Y=2000, 1=2001 ... 6=2006)
M: factory (M=Hamamatsu/Japan, K=Kumamoto/Japan, A=Ohio/USA, F=Atessa/Italy, E=Barcelona/Spain
000992: serial number

The left hand switch gear is diff as they have the dipped beam on permanently, therefore ther is no switch to go from off/sidelight/dipped, just a rocker from dipped to main, it also no main beam button like we have. As this switch gear has a different conector block the loom is corospondingly different as well...
Plus of course they are all right hand drive over there...
...so the headlight reflector will be diff...
You do know there is a PDF copy of the manual on here somewhere...

The non uk switchgear was on e-bay with a pic of a uk one but the wrong discription, said it was a right hand one, the kill switch side but it was cheap as chips so I bought it & that was what turned up...
As it happens I have a Storm with that style of switchgear so its kept as a spare...
