This winters project.
Ok not VTR related but give you something to read/follow/laugh at over winter.
long time ago in a galaxy far far away i bought my LC250. about 3/4 years ago ish.. clean as a whistle rebuilt motor ready to go. and happily it went well .
until a few days ago , started to get boggy and just wasnt right . quickly realised it had done a crank seal when i smelt the gear oil burning. no big deal just pop a seal in then engine covid happened .
so decision time, sell, break,or do it proper.mmmmmmmmmmm that decision was made last nite wne i checked the flywheel and i have movment, not a lot but enough to decide if its gona be rebuilt i better do it right and be done with it, future proof the we bike.
itl be a full winter job due to costs, getting the parts are no problem but the prices of some parts would make your eyes water . you think vtr parts are dear oh i wish.
so sit back and watch the madness of it all, cursing swearing and hammers being thrown about .
it was a clean bike but up close bits i knew were hidden was starting to show its age so time for a proper refurb.

Sounds like a worthy project Rob.
Those things sure were fun. It'll be rewarding when it's all done and dusted

My new ride is a bit of a Howler and I love to make her Squeal
Re: This winters project.
Then it took a turn when I realised iv about a half mm movement in the flywheel/crank.. new main bearings and seals might fix it but I dont wana risk having to pull it apart so new or rebuilt crank time...
Not paying Yamaha 2k tho .they having a laugh but I know enough people who live Yamaha strokers to not have to pay yamaha prices so with a full new or rebuilt crank that will save £1500 of the crank price.

Re: This winters project.
Well a little further investigating shows actually the we bike has had at least a top end at some time so the vendor wasnt telling me porkies and under the skini
Its in pretty good shape so far.

Re: This winters project.
Great decision not to sell Good luck with the rebuild, lots of support and detail available on the RD forum.
I am not as brave as you and got my engine completely rebuilt by Dave Whattam a few years ago.
Bit of a hike to get to Dave's place from NI though

Re: This winters project.
A little more investigation reveals a very lucky escape so good has come from the bad.

Re: This winters project.
it was indeed. the front of the piston had some scuff marks but nothing to worry about, id like to try and keep it on standard bore so i will see if a light hone cleans its up and a new set of pistons will have the top end sorted at least

Re: This winters project.
That was lucky Rob, I’m looking forward to seeing this project as I have a few(ok 6) Two strokes now and I dare say I will have similar issues at some point. I agree parts are plentiful but bloody expensive . Keep up the good work sir
