Piston slap

Post by Bikemad61 »

Getting occasional piston slap, front cylinder only at low revs or when rolling off the throttle again at low revs. Any of you grease monkey experts can help??

I would suspect it's more like the the cam chain making the slapping noise rather than the piston, especially if it's when rolling off the throttle :!: If it gets any worse get the cam chain tensioners checked or replaced :!:

Mine has just been doing this, and it does sound like piston slap. But it is the front cam chain tensioner (was on mine anyway) Check the "mystery noise" thread in workshop section and see if yours sounds the same.

Thanks to all but I should have mentioned it the first time, when the slap happens you can feel it like a thump from under the tank, scares the sh1t out of me sometimes on roundabouts, makes me stand it up before I realise what it is.

sounds like it might be the carb backfire/gulp trick, quite common with light throttle and low revs
