Project Carbon!!

Post by VeetyR »

Heya guys,

i know a few of ya read my last post about fabricating Carbon bitz and bobz. I am now at the stage where i am ready to buy all the equipment and materials that i am gonna need to get this thing off the ground.

Budget is £400ish

My old man has sorted me a lil corner in his workshop to set myself up. And I have got hold of a cam to use to document my progress from the start( knowing absolutely jack sh1t ) to the finish ( where i can produce an item of reasonable complexity with a quality finish ).

I have read up on the stuff i am gonna need and most of it is readily available on the net, thru fleabay and other suppliers.

The one item i am stuck on is the actual vacuum pump i am gonna need for the bagging process....there are lots of different types out there and am not sure which one to get......can anyone here shed some light on that??
If not i will contact a few companies for some additional info but that will have to wait till tomoz.

I am thinking of starting with small items so i get as many "practice" goes out of the materials i buy..and someone has said it would be cheaper to use Glassfibre first as the techniques are the same?? I may try this if so but will prob just wing it with carbon and see what cracks.

Anyway as i said before, I will document it all here for ya'll to peruse....I am gonna start shopping next weekend. I will update ya then..wish me luck 8O

About the vac pump you have one in your house and don’t know it.

There cheap to get and modify :?

What is it I hear you say it’s a fridge pump they can be modified for pennies. :o

Do a web search for diy vacuum bagging foam wings for model aircraft
