That fixes it.mik_str wrote:underside foam is already gone. Front of tank is also already upped a few mm. As for the rear, I ran it up last season for a bit and may do so again, we'll see. Problem with raising either end of the tank is that you are limited as the tank holes no longer line up......tony.mon wrote:Take the foam off the underside; that should help a bit.
As well as adding spacers under the front tank mounts, you can also add a few mm spacer under the rear tank mounting bolt plate, and slightly longer bolts.
Trouble is you're also raising the cog.

Re: This winter's rebuild and mods
Hi again Tony,
that is precisely what I did and have to report that it doesn't gt ride of the problem. Lifting the tank results in the front mounting holes moving forward relative to the holes in the frame; you have a small margin to play with but not much.... I managed to get a bit more play when I had done it by dispensing with the steel collars that hold the mounting bolts.... been there, done that.......

You need to get some rubber bolts.Lifting the tank results in the front mounting holes moving forward relative to the holes in the frame

I stand corrected.
Never raised the rear of the tank myself but it looked straightforward, but then again I'd not be too precious about drilling out the front mounting holes- the paint on mine isn't great already so a few more rusty bits won't hurt.
Get it on the dyno, Mike...

Little present was awaiting me when I got home from another 14 hour day at work at ten tonight...

There's lovely, now.

Tony what they set you back ?
Re: This winter's rebuild and mods
Interesting squish and you can see how they are trying to direct the flamefront towards the rounded corners (round corner
) where it will get quenched on the cylinder wall. Are they coated at all Tony?

Coating? No, I don't get them to last long enough to make it worthwhile- they're more, erm, consumables......cybercarl wrote:Interesting squish and you can see how they are trying to direct the flamefront towards the rounded corners (round corner![]()

Can you quench a flamefront? I'll have to try that.
Hopefully I don't get the squish I got last time where one of them tried to squish the broken-off heads of three valves out through the top of the head.
£216 inc VAT and delivery, from a UK supplier but I'll have to buy two ring sets, probably another £100.
And factor in head gaskets and big end bolts at least. Should really do mains and big end shells as well, but might not bother this time, they usually don't need doing, I just did the last lot while I was there, but they don't wear, really, with standard compression.
So £360 to get them in and fitted, I suppose.
But worth maybe +10Bhp, and I LIKE +10Bhp.*
I seem to be running late with the winter rebuild.....Maybe finished by NEXT winter.
*Less the cost of running it on Super.

Re: This winter's rebuild and mods
I thought this is what happens when it hits the cylinder walls so it don't burn the rings or am I missing something here. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology but I figured the flamefront is as it suggests in the name and the front of the flame as it expands, therefore first to hit the walls. Can you quench a flamefront?
