I ain't got a tool to remove the pistons mate, so they went in split into two, they're nice and clean, but I suggest you pop the pistons out and clean behind them....

I fitted the standard exhausts for the first time last night, was coming in a bit loud at Oulton so thought I'd best swap 'em over before my track day.
I couldn't believe it when I started it up, was soooo quiet! It still sounds 'ok' when riding, and above 6k on a wide open throttle you get a bit of noise back, but man it's different lol. I actually ended up quite liking it

Loud pipes save lives mate, today I was out on the Tuono and an old geezer indicated to come across into my lane so I gave it a hit to miss him, he heard it and swerved back into his own lane.
I can't imagine ever going back to standards on the Storm. I just love the noise, but on longer trips I do wear earplugs!

Yeah I'll be putting them back on after Wednesday, just don't wanna be turned away simply for being too loud.

I have to say that after doing 1500 miles in10 days, and at least 800 of those were motorway miles, having loud cans did start to grate on me, don't get me wrong, I love em to bits, during the motorway miles, I either had earplugs in or headphones, but even then the noise started to bug me, at one point towards the butt end of the M4 I turned the music off and I had to stop the bike and do a walk around, the reason being the bike was so loud I thought something had fallen off the exhaust....
only to find out it was just the fact i'd stop the music and that's really how loud they are....
so I can understand the benefits of quieter cans, I also understand the loud cans save lives, during those miles I think I had to do at least 5 miles of filtering, and it was biblical like the parting of the waves, I wouldn't have got that with standard cans. even to the point I followed a blade in stupidly heavy traffic westbound going past Cardiff, the traffic only parted when they heard the v-twin, the blade got nothing....
if they made a standard a standard exhaust that was light, good looking and really sounded nice above 5k i'd be interested. that's why i'm looking forward to the full akra system, it's quieter than you'd think....

Well that's it, I would like something that is reasonably quiet when starting up and idling, but comes alive and sounds sweet when you want it to. Guess you gotta spend good money to get that.

The noise is part of the bikes character, a bit like a Harley. Travis it's not down to expense!! Like the Pineapple said Akras are not that loud same with my Arata's. It's down to exhaust design or trial and error, packing etc. With my Arata's at tickover they are quite and at low down revs they have a really deep loud rumble which is great while filtering. But if I get the revs up with high speed the pitch changes to a more high pitched scream.

It's just different, zipping around under the radar, passing cars and not feeling like they're thinking "what a tw@t, on his stupid loud death machine!"
But yes, I obviously much prefer having a bit of noise, this is purely to guarantee me getting out on track and the performance is unchanged so...
Maybe I will try something else afterwards, I wanted carbon cans anyway...
