She has a rear hugger again now! Cable ties, 2x6mm nuts (to use as spacers) and an hour on a goose chase through Rugby to find a 10mm M6 screw. :)

Rode it hard :-) .
Bike feels much more stable and I feel more part of it now the bars are in the low setting and I can even rest my outside arm on the tank around bends now ,
It's surprising how much better it feels when you rest your arm on the tank as your not putting any pressure on the bars ,
On a roundabout ck and I was on doing a few laps I could ride round the out side of him :-)
In all loving the new yokes and fork internals .
Tho the suspension still needs tweaking as it had my out the seat a few times with my outside leg up in the air !!

Yeah me and Lloyd had some good fun today. Had some frustrating moments (Lloyd castrating himself, my tyres not warming up and a few others) but all in all a good day and a well needed ride. Bike won't be touched for a month or so now though :(

Managed to get my knee down a few times on a roundabout and I wheelie'd the bike drag racing Lloyd :lol:

wheres the gloves in the photo? :D

i saw the pair of you heading back from my house, sorry I wasn't there to get you coffee, but was still on my push bike after doing 70 miles down to the cotswolds

That pic was before we went to yours al .

We had 2 drag races ,one I won and one Chris won so it's still open ! .

The vibration was present when gently rolling on between 4000-4500 revs in top gear and then it went away.

It was very minor but was felt more by the seat of my pants, not through the bars, sort of like a tingling sensation in the seat of the bike.

Some on here might of enjoyed it, but I knew something wasn't right.
When I did the engine work I removed the anti rattle gear on the primary and was thinking it was that at first.

Then my mind started wandering and I thought that it could of been something to do with the lightened flywheel or the fact that I had removed the clutch basket and not refitted it properly.

Also thought it may have been because I took the water pump drive chain and gear out when I fitted the electric pump!

Maybe it had something to do with the JE pistons or the manual tensioners.

As you can see the motor has had a fair bit done that could upset the balance so I was getting worried.

I have also fitted new wheel bearings and swing arm and link bearings.

I was getting worried as those revs are what I sit on a lot of the time when out in the countryside(Bush) and it was spoiling my enjoyment of the bike.

I even went to the extreme of tensioning almost every nut and bolt as per the manual each time I played with an area of the bike.

I was getting paranoid about this as I had the opportunity to ride another Storm that was standard except for a set of pipes and some jetting.

I was shocked at how tame it was compared to mine, but it didn't have the stinking niggling vibration that mine had.

Was it the tyres? no a new set went on and it was still there, not bad but still noticeable compared to the other bikes that I ride.

The chain that was on the bike when I got it at 9000k's had been neglected but wasn't stretched, the sprockets were good but had some corrosion on them.

Of course I cleaned everything up and the chain had a very slight tight spot that seemed to go away after I cleaned it.

The guy that owned it before me had left it in a carport with a cover on it and the chain and sprockets were somewhat weathered.

I believe that the bike sat stationary like this for about 2 years or more.

I even went to the trouble of balancing the wheels twice and had them checked by a wheel refinisher to make sure they weren't buckled.

I checked the Cush drive rubbers and they were somewhat worn and fell out when I removed the sprocket carrier.

That's why I replaced the chain etc and after everything else that was done I believe that one of the chain, sprocket or Cush drive rubber components was causing the problem as the vibration is gone now.

Like I said it wasn't one of those vibrations that got worse the faster you went, in fact it was the opposite but only at 4000-4500 revs in top gear and a ride spoiler.

Now it's gone and you know what I can never be certain what caused it, but my bet is a combination of the chain, or sprockets, or Cush drive rubbers.

Also be aware that I use a laser aligner whenever I adjust my chain.

One thing for sure is that the bike is now smooth to ride and it could be my imagination but the chain is also quieter now.

Time will tell, now the sun is shining and I'm going for a ride.

It's strange how you can feel these things and not find the reason for it but good now it's gone .
And sometimes you can't work it out until it comes back again, that's if it does. Irritating trying to track things down sometimes and sounds to me like your thinking all sorts of things. You need to step back from it and come back to it later. You never know it may come back again, get progressively worse which will help you track it down. At least you have early warning signs so can keep an ear open/monitor things.

I need to get new cush rubbers too... mines wombles. I can really feel it when pulling away. It's been like it for a while now and I'm sure it contributed to chain stretch on my last chain. I should have changed it back then really. Oh well, something to put on the list. I'm gong genuine Honda with this part though.

Agree genuine crush rubbers are worth the extra fiver and make a big difference and last longer too :thumbup:
