Not far, as it turns out, not even off the drive this am.
Fuel tap problem, it's not compatible with a fuel pump so I've had to bodge a temporary get me to Wales fix.
Running fine into work, let's see if it will keep going to Wales this evening.

When running a pump you need to split the diaphragm in the fuel tap and block the vac pipe both at the engine and on the tap .

The reason was that when turning ignition on before trying to start it (I have to, it takes the preheaters on the Lambda sensors a few seconds to warm up) the fuel pump tries to suck fuel from the tap.
It can't, because the engine isn't cranking, allowing the vacuum to open the tap.
So the seal and plunger (smaller of the two tap diaphragms) gets sucked into the tap and it gets locked there under the pump vacuum.
When the engine is cranked, there is such strong suction from the pump the vacuum can't pull the tap's piston back across.
The piston and diaphragms are only clipped together by a little "rubber" button, and because the vac form the engine and the vac created by the fuel pump are pulling in opposite directions the sections can separate.

I found another way, remove the larger (vacuum) diaphragm, fit the spring between the tap and the internal end of the plunger and the tap body.

That way the fuel diaphragm cannot fully enter the tap body, and the vac from the pump cannot create a vacuum. The spring pushes to shuttle across holding the tap open.
Works fine, and if the smaller diaphragm splits fuel will still flow out of the overflow, showing me what's wrong.

But now it's running richer, around 9:1 to 10:1.
Uses vast amounts of fuel and is slower than it should be- no surprise there!

So it got me around Wales ok but I now need to order some even smaller mains, and start playing with jetting again.....sigh.

I'm getting a bit bored, really, I seem to be close but then more factors start creeping in.

I am assuming that the fuel pump is now getting a better/more consistent supply of fuel to the carbs, and so they are running a little richer, hence the need to drop a size or two on the mains.

I'm glad I have the Lambda sensors and display plumbed in or I wouldn't have a clue what the hell was going on.

Please no-one offer me any flatslides cheap or I'd have to start again, again......

On Tuesday...Washed bits of Wales off it & changed the bent gear leaver...

Today...Straightend the bent gear leaver to be kept as a spare...You never know...Hahahaha.


Now in the intrestes of gaining a bit more speed I decied to go down the Turbo Fan route. So I found a suplier on line coughed up the shekels & the goods arived to day so spent a bit of time in the cave fitting it all on...Not sure it's the best idea I've ever had...

I like it. It adds flair and class to your otherwise red motorcycle.
And slices flies in half so that they are easier to clean off the headlight lens- good thinking.

Now THAT'S a neat idea. Far better than the standard titchy cooling fan.

Just a couple of vacuum cleaner extending hoses underneath either side of the headlight, a Y joint, and then both radiators will never overheat again.

You may want to Patent this idea and send it to Mr Honda.....

Next you'll be fitting some Ducati wings !!

After I changed the front pads in the bird yesterday , I bedded them in today on the way home from work .
Now the calipers are sticking so I gave the Pistons another good polish and put it all back together, there a little better but still not how I like them ,
So looks like a seal kit will be on its way .

A very productive weekend. Fitted a set of aftermarket exhausts, replaced all the aluminium bolts that had been replaced by a previous owner and replaced the reg/rec!

Had a ride tonight in the wet, bloody slippery winding it on, bit squirrely off some bends, buy the backs going id ok. Shat it at a bend then it started to dry out!. Great ride and bone dry as i got in. opened my pressies and got £100 to spend and some bikey bits. Yahoo.

Removed back wheel, gave swing arm area a good clean
cleaned the wheel up, ready for new tyre tomorrow ( Dunlop Roadsmart )

Rode it like I stole it , it's easy to forget how fast it is when you spend most of the time just bimbling along ,then thrash it , it caught me rite out ,wombles the bird is fast .

I rode it carefully to the dealership I work for and purchased a new Michelin Pilot Road 3 for the front. It turns out the front tire was truly junk, well past its sell-by date and, on closer inspection, even had two long gashes in the middle of the carcass. I feel better about riding it now. It also turns a bit quicker too.

I've just rolled it out the garage for a blast. Sunny warm and a pay rise almost in my pocket. It should be a good day.

Polished my cans after fixing the house again from damage by the dogs.

Surprised how well they came up.

My missus wants to do an IAM ride tomorrow.

Seems I have to go to.
