No it wasn't me, but my first bike was a field going BSA 250 C15 at the tender age of 14yrs old.

Lucky for me I lived on a farm, I already had an old car that I could drive around the fields (an old Ford Anglia) that Dad had given me and was fairly familiar with driving the tractor, but could I get to grips with the hand clutch on that C15, I couldn't believe how difficult it was. Mind you it didn't help by the fact of having my mate at the time, insisting he rode pillion while I was trying to master the clutch. I either conked the bike out by not giving it enough rev's, or I'd give it too much and end up pulling a big wheelie, which scared me that much I pulled the clutch in again back to square one

bout 5yrs old on a twist and go at the local market. crashed straight into the hay bales and my poor mum apologised and dragged me out the the makeshift barriers and decided against ever letting me do that again.

Loads of different encounters but I was put off actually riding on a regular basis until I moved to the isle of man 8 years ago and after the first TT I thought - baldrocks I'm old enough and ugly enough to have some sense now I'm gonna get me one of those.

Don't actually have any sense but I'm so glad I did. I get no pleasure form driving a car at all now. Oh apart from the cd player.

Riding in the sidecar with the oldman tipping it on two wheel's with me standing out of the sunroof ( it was the size of a small house )
Or playing in the back garden on the Ariel square four frame that was standing on brick's, it fell on me and pop had to rescue me
I was only about 6. Almost 20 year's ago now.

So was that an Enfield frame, and Ariel Square Four frame, or some hybrid?

I'm not old enough to remember them 1st time round either Dave so there may have been one? a Hybrid at least eg NorBSA, Triton etc?

Remember me bro buying a Square Four 'flat pack' well frame wheels etc and a tea chest full o' bits - joined the Ariel owners club and everything (Still got the cloth badge somehwere) - he never got it built back up though - knowing him, he'll have made a nice profit when he sold the jigsaw on though!

I didnt think the engin had been invented when you were a lad. Thought you kicked about on those bikes with the big wheel at the front and the little one at the back

I learned to ride on a friends Suzuki GT185 which was a lovely bike. Very buzzy.

My first 'bike' that I actually owned was a Garelli Rekord 50cc Sports Moped when I was 17. I remember it nipping up a piston and me having to buy a new barrel that had a chrome lined bore. Cost me a bl%dy fortune. Fifteen quid which was nearly the end of my world financially at that time!!!!
Faster than a 'Fizzy' as it was 6.5bhp (FS1E was only 4.5bhp ha ha)

An old NSU something or other, it was more often conked than running, but the lad that had it used to see how many of us he could get on ( 5 was the best ) and roll down the local " cottage brae " a 1in6 type affair. We used to set off on the way with a push from the few that could not get aboard, we gathered speed very quickly, there was a turn off about threequarters of the way down and the aim was to make that without coming off as if we missed it, it was straight on to the B817 and the traffic then over the sea wall on to the beach. The crack was good in those days. Then we moved on to a c90, it used to run forever on a drop of fuel.
The first machine I owned outright was a 1978 XL250k 67mph flat out, chin on the tank, feet on the back indicators. It cost me £250.00 and insurance was £125.00, still got the reciept and the original certificate (Sad person)
