I don't think anyone was saying that the Storm is a fast as the Gixxer. I stopped playing top trumps at puberty anyway.
If, like me, you like twisty B roads, where you can exercise some skill on the twisties (take the B1097 down to Finchingfield for example) then all I am saying is that, on the basis that you probably won't top 90mph between corners anyway, there is little discernable difference, if any, between the two bikes and certainly not £4000 worth at the time.
Coming back through Lincolnshire a couple of years ago three of us mullered two brand new Blades on the twisties - we were on the Storm, a 600RR and a Blackbird with a top box. If we had been able to actually ride, who knows what we could have done.
If your idea of riding a bike is 120 plus on A roads, then you may need something else, like a book to read whilst you sit at home waiting for your licence to come back.
Put the Storm on a track next to a GSXR1000 and the Storm won't come close. I never suggested it would.
The storm wasn't even competitive when it was released - it was never meant to be.
That's interesting, if inaccurate. MCN tested the Storm v 916 v TL1000 on the track and rated the Storm more highly in the hands of the "average" rider.

Got to agree

afterall it is FireStormUK we're on, not Gixxer.com et al
The storm wasn't even competitive when it was released - it was never meant to be.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't really matter what bikes were tested against the Storm, it was released as a 'Sports Tourer', not a full spec, out and out, race bike on the road!
The SP1 was the WSB bike, produced to kickass on the track against the dominant Ducati, a job which they did only too well, the Storm was not.
The Gixxer and Blades were / are designed and built to be in a different league to the Storm, so it's not suprising that their top speeds and / or handling in standard trim are 'better?' than the Storm.
It's a bit like trying to compare any of the current WTC cars to the F1's of Ferrari, Mclaren, Williams etc. The WTC's although fast, manoeverable with superb handling are very competitive in their own field. Put any of them on the track with an F1 and someone's going to be left choking on fumes!
There's always going to be something faster, something more manoeverable, something more comfortable out there, no doubt with better fuel ecconomy.
Look at the current rankings of WSB, BSB and even MotoGP to see who's got the fastest bike, best tyres etc etc Think you'll find ATM it's Ducati, Ducati and Yamaha
The last person I came across who just wanted the fastest bike no matter what, is now missing the lower part of a limb

too much to quote there redstorm - but agree, agree, agree - ad infinitum.
I understand the point about it not being £4000 quid faster - but thats a matter of opinion eh? I mean some chumps pay £80 grand for a porsche which would struggle to keep up with a storm over the mountain and wouldn't stand a chance against squiffys' new steed.
I'd say thats value for money.
And if I had way to much money you just know I'd have a desmo sat in my underground, heated, bombproof vehicle salon

I have stayed out of this for some time, watching and waiting to make a comment.........
Guys, i have owned a Firestorm (did 15000 miles on it) an SP1 (Did 9000 miles on that) and my current bike is on 10000 from new.
I have ridden the same roads and whilst my competence has increased over time, i had a trip down memory lane the other day when i had a go on a bloke's old storm with 30000 showing. Any of you who think that a storm or an SP is as fast as a GSXR 1000 - even the older ones - haven't ridden the big Gixxer. Period. Even below 90 (which is hard) its handling and punch are way beyond either of the Hondas. I intend to qualify that statement: the GSXR at those speeds can afford to stay in 1st all the time (it will do 110mph in first gear). That gives huge acceleration across the rev range at any corner. Yes it is more dangerous like that and you risk highsides but it is still light years ahead, £4000 better, definitely. The point is that you don't want to pay an extra £4000 for that performance increase.
That said, and here is what underpins all of you on here with storms. You want character, noise at a bragain price. Somebody said earlier that no-one looks to see an IL4 coming round the corner at full tilt at bike meets. But turn up on a Storm or SP with race cans and they all look to see. This character adds to the sense of occasion, it adds to the "performance" of the machine.
I am not going to be drawn into an argument with anyone who hasn't ridden all three as they don't have the breadth of experience to know how all three work.
I feel able to make these comments without offending people because i have been on here for a while and seen the kind of people who ride these machines and they are all the same.
If you want speed get an IL4 litre bike
If you want character and grin inducing throttle movement, get a twin
Mine's an SP1 please.............. end of essay!

Surely that is the debate exhausted now
IL4s are for cocks and V twins are for big cocks
Hang on a min that cant be right I ride an IL4 now so it must be the other way round
Who cares see ya at the meet
