My rom drives died now, all it makes is a 'grrrrr grrrrr grrrrr' noise :( easy to replace, but you need to flash the motherboard or something and reload the old drive settings onto the new drive or it doesn't work :( been looking at an Elite though and I should think I'll end up getting one by the end of the week 8O still the same name as on here :)

Timbo wrote:Jim, you can also plug it straight into the back of your DSL modem, you dont have to have a router.

There is a section in the setup for specifying if your ISP requires a username, same as windows, though that isnt surprising as the Xbox360 is a cut down windows Shell, i.e. they have taken away all the stuff that makes Windows crash :)
No ethernet connectionpoint on my modem Tim, that was my first port of call.

I've not tried one yet, but a mate says to use one of these for Xbox live. A lot of people say they are better than wireless and pretty cheap. Route signal through the house wiring, hadn't heard of them until my mate recommend them and I reckon I'm gonna give em a try cheaper than the Xbox wireless connector 8)

UPS man that picked up my Xbox said he gets as many Elites go back as vanilla Xbox's from very peeved customer who thought the Elite was a 'better' machine. I could be wrong, just what he told me. Then again the Elite has a huge hard drive if you could use that. If mine brakes out of warranty its a cheap £130 one for me, esp as the bloke in GAME reckoned MS were gonna stop the 3 yr warranty soon.

Xbox elite turned up today :D so far improvements are a much quieter living room due to quieter fans and a much much quieter disc drive, slightly better picture through the hdmi although not amazingly noticeable unless you flick between the two settings and it looks good :P update, it's almost dead silent 8)

Seriously I'm totally shocked, I thought it was going to be on par noise wise with the old one as that had already had the overheating mod done. It's got the Benq drive that are supposed to be the quietest and most reliable and also the newer chipset that uses less power and the power brick hardly gets warm 8)

If you paid for a beta code, oh well.... for the others, just letting you know the beta has been released for free on xbox marketplace.
Been playing it this afternoon and have to say I hate it so far, maybe its because I don't know the maps, but it just doesn't feel right to me but then again it is a beta version so can't slag it off too much, then again if it doesn't change I won't be buying it.

Got a Wii for the kids (honest!) just before last xmas, and it's kept them and me amused. Most games are simple, with mediocre graphics, but the interface can be fun. Never got much beyond Wii Sports myself. Sad to say many of the games are very expensive for what they are, and hope I don't offend anyone but chipped mine myself.
