Diaphram kits are not too expensive at around £20 ,and shouldn't take long for a dealer to fit .

Danny,
I would say not easy to judge, whether to give/or not give a garage advice on possible causes to your problem. Unless you know them really well IMHO.

If a CCT (cam chain tensioner) had failed at some point in your bikes life, and the valve timing needed to be re-set, some garages don't realise that the front and rear cylinders also need to be timed with each other when replacing the CCT's on the Firestorm, even though each cylinder has it's own separate cam chain and CCT.

This is where the valve timing can be out by 180 degrees.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon

Only other thing I managed to do to get this sort of problem was over-oil the K&N air filter.
Made it run so rich it wouldn't rev out.

But the 180degrees out timing is an easy thing to do- just takes a bit of time to check, ideally with both cam covers off.

There's a really good thread on here if the dealer's struggling....

Well I decided not say anything, if he is worth his salt he will find the problem and sort it, after all its his responcibilty. He said he will call me when he has some news, I dont know him from Adam but seems like a decent enough chap, the fact that he came the day after i called him and picked it up shows willing..............time will tell, I`ll let you all know the out-come.

I think you've probably done the best thing there Danny, by not saying anything. If later on he's still struggling to fix it, then you have the option to offer some advice then, if you so wish.

Hopefully he'll get it sorted soon,

Well got a call from the chap today, he`s stumped 8O which is not what i really wanted to hear, oddly he said that he has checked the plugs cleaned the carbs and checked the fuel tap diaphram, all seem to be ok. He is quite confinced they can sort it but need more time.

Kev did you get to the root of your misfire?

:D :D Its not fixed but they know what it is :D :D , the cam timing is out :?

The dealer has left it at the performance shop for them to do the work, they will time it all and re-dyno the bike, so will get a dyno print-out of what its doing.

Not having taken any vehicle to a dyno, how much do you think that will all cost? Not that i will be paying for it mind  Especially as the shop are doing the mechanical work too. So hope to get my storm back Tuesday or Wednesday next week........Happy days

we have had 2 dyno runs, one on an Aprillia sxv650 for £50 and one for a bandit 600 for 67.50 these were done by my local mx shop, the sm was an interest for them, the bandit was to prove restrictor kit power

Not impressed with the dealer if they can't diagnose that one for themselves.....

I`ll wait till i get it back first, he reckons that when he rode the bike he never took it pat 5000rpm therefore didn`t notice the problem.......MMMMMMMMMM

Anyway will wait till i get it back and hopefully i`ll be impressed with the bike, from what i have read about the VTR they are great bikes but mine needs to prove itself to me, my first proper bike was a CBR 600F which was a great bike but then came along the kids ect ect. I only got back into bikes year or so ago when i bought a 600 Bandit which was ok but managed to save up a few bob and bought the VTR, lets hope it pays me back in smiles.
