Sorry, my dad says with that photo he would be lucky to recognize himself grumpy old git . He does say its a BSA 250 about 1940's though (no extra info I'm afraid).

Can you not trace anything through the number plate?
All I could find was "CV" is the registration mark for Truro, Cornwall and the 2 letter at the beginning type registration plate stopped being used in about 1936.
Maybe one of the locals may remember the bike. I'm sure I'd remember a bike being ridden by a guy with a huge yellow head.
Many thanks to all who contributed in one way or another to help discover which make/model this bike is.
I have now emailed Leon as Wicky suggested (to see what his opinion was) and this is his reply giving his thoughts on this bike:-
Hi Chris,
The bike is probably from 1929 or 1930 judging from the petrol tank. It could well be a Sloper most likely a side valve model. But looking closely the forks are not the right model. They are the right model however for a side valve Light model . The same goes for the front brake. The Sloper had a 7†brake whereas the Light had a 5.5†brake.
So my best guess would be that the bike is a 1930 S30-18 Light 493 cc side valve.
Regards,
Leon
So it's possible it could still be a bit of a mix-n-match as some thought.
