Wow a CBX 750! I rode one for years. Totally stripped and rebuilt mine and even couriered distance on it. I sure did enjoy that bike.

Keep it.
Build a wee sub-frame for fairing mounted mirrors (didn't like the stock bar mounted ones - Kwaka GPZ mirrors were best). Loads better.

fitted some vfr bars and trimmed the fairing a bit with a cheapo dremel - much dust in the eyes :/




fitted a 15t sprocket and just got back from a 55 mile ]
blast - unbelievable difference lol!
the riding position is ace and the acceleration is wicked!

some nob in a merc wanted a race from the lights on the lancs and was forced to listen to my newly drilled baffles
it took off so quick the right bar came loose - crapped meself & had to pull into maccys to tighten it up.
the locating pip is in a different place than the std bars so it just relys on the bolt being tight

found the perfect wax for this (lovely...) colour - it's a 50/50 mix of simoniz green and holts blue polish - looked really shiny when i took it out but was mingin after 20 miles!

Hey Benny, where did you get your vfr bars from, which year, how much ETC- and exactly how much fairing trimming was involved?

yah timbo, fancied a ride up there went thru skem - its like a bloody gp track lol (still trying to wear the last line of pips off my michelins!) not been there for ages, went upholland and back through billinge and my home town then out toward runcorn, frodsham, delamere, then back home - had a nice ride tbh but was fkin cold lol.
was thinkin when i was out shouldve let u know i was up there, give u a race lol

the bars were off fleabay from a breakers - off a 98 vfr800 i think - i googled it anyway to check the donor has 41mm fork diameter. think u can go up to 03?

cost me a packet tho cos the wnker wouldnt sell them as a pair, then he sent them interlink express and they wouldnt hand them over in case i wasnt me.

if u compare the fairing in the pic below with an un modded one, you can see i just had to trim off the ear lobe bit on the end of the fairing - didn't need to go into the screen or lose a screw.
hasnt altered the rigidity of the fairing at all and i didnt notice any vibration or rattles.

i scored a line from just under where the mirrors mount and then followed the curve of the original cut-out, shaved off between 1/4 & 1/2" with a 1" cut-off disc - was really easy.
then finished it off with some 80 grade sanding belt paper then some fine stuff.

i kept the offcuts to try & match the colour up with a touch up pen to neaten up the edge where it's black inside, plus thought it would be worth keeping in case i ever have to do any plastic welds!

the bars are 3/4" off the tank on full lock and i didnt need to mod the hoses at all - oh apart from trim the bit of metal that stops the brake hose banjo from moving.
and also inside the stop/start switch there's a pip that needs shaving off, and another inside the throttle housing.
in the original bars it lines up with a hole but it's in a different place on the vfr bars.
- and the vtr bar weights wouldn't fit either so i got some new from town.


sounds a lot of fkin about but in reality took about 1 1/2hrs to do a neat job and didnt dent anything in the process!
Feels great on the road, very relaxed position, but jeez im glad of the db screen - can't 1/2 feel the difference in wind over a ton20 so i'm glad i geared it down really.
