Went for a spin on the VTR up for sale at my local dealer. What a difference for a star the brakes have virtually no travel at the lever and the gear change is a lot quicker, especially 1st to 2nd. The steering was also a lot quicker. However i dont think its worth another £1600 quid, so if i can get my bike sorted for a reasonable amount then i'll go down that route..

gearchange, try some of them rose joints i posted about on ebay - lovely feel to the gearchange with them on & maybe the bar just wants adjusting so your foot movement is less for more movement on the shaft? worked for me anyway - also check the ball joint bolt isnt loose in the lever, mine was and it made the gearchange feel really sloppy and kept missing gears.

forks want dropping a bit as well if it feels an effort to corner, and mebe some new taper bearings.

regarding the braking, the standard brakes aren't the greatest but they should still work ok.
either the pistons are sticking or they're full of air. nothing a good fettling wont fix :thumbup:

the bike in the dealers? you're just lining someone's pocket there imo.
there's good sorted bikes on here going for well less and you can see their history as well.
sort it out and then at least if you decide to part with it later, it will fetch a better price than in it's current state.

Got the brakes sorted, now for the front forks and the the steering bearings

Well someone told me that the brake lever span can be adjusted so you can reach them easier, having little dainty hands i tried this and they were easier to grip, unfortunately he didn't tell me that by reducing the span you also reducing the bite on the disc's. After 10 mins re-setting the brake and clutch levers all is much better.. :thumbup:

Not sure I agree with this logic, the span adjusters dont change the mechanical or hydraulic leverage. so only if the lever was fouling the switch gear or the end of teh rubber grips in the new position would you see any drop in bite.

May be worth checking to see if you had mechanical fouling, need to fix that, as it is not safe!

I've taken it to a dealers for checking and they have confrmed that they are now working fine
