I could run all day with mine, thanks to the ciggy socket from halfords.
I had to bend a bit of ally tube to get the best place to angle the holder, could have done with some pipe benders to make a neat job of it but I was in a rush and function over form as they say.

This is the clamp on my home made bit of bracket. The water proof jacket clips on and off so the clamp can stay when you park up and you can put your sat nav in your pocket/bag when you are away from the bike.

As the clamp has a ball joint on it you can move it around to get the best angle. Also, I managed to get it up and under the screen which also helps keep a lot of the rain off and boy did we need it crossing Germany on the way to Austria
I couldn't see my indicators or speedo but the Sat Nav has a speed indicator so that didn't matter. I could see the rev bar and fuel light and that came on way too soon and too often

Very neat Pete, good job there mate

I use a compass and a protractor. No power usage required and also waterproof. At night I even use the stars.

A couple of weeks ago I got a second hand Garmin Quest with all the bits and bobs for £60 (not sure if that was a bargin or not). I have not tried it yet to see how it performs but hope to in the coming weeks.
Pete, is that a garmin bracket you have fitted on your SP?

Whoa, think about buying shat nav with maps that will be outdated in a months time, I have A NOKIA 5800 this has Nokia maps which update for free, not like garmin and Toss Tom that like to charge you £30 for an update, it is better in all ways that I have found and is totally free if you have a compatible phone, there are loads of extras as well if you choose to use them, stick it in yer "napoleon pocket" or bank tag plug yer ear phones in and never get lost and you dont have to look around which I think is dangermouse...............I have wired up a 12v socket so I have joosy baby.........

Thats a possibilty, I have a blackberry with BB maps but I have found it not to be reliable on my travles around europe. The tom tom on the other hand worked perfectly.

Phones are good, free maps are even better and I'm sure if I new which star to look at I could work out how to use a protractor again but why
Sat nav's are good at the mo and not many roads change from one year to the next so it's not really that important to get updates, may be every five years or so in my opinion and in that time you probably will want another Sat nav or there will be some new technology to take it's place and it'll come with updated maps anyway.

it's not a garmin fitment. It's an old bit of aluminium tent pole I just put a bend in it and then squashed the ends in a vice

Yeah the copper served it's purpose and proved an easy metal to work with but it's too brittle and looked pretty ropey.
Also I wont be so embarrased leaving this on full time and it wont turn green on me over the winter

I use a Garmin Quest and a RAM handlebar mount runs for 20 hrs without charging. Bicycle holder fits the Ram and has a 3mm earphone socket works well.

20hrs ! That negates the use of a power supply, things are looking even rosier. Thanks

Anytime the most important thing to remember when "finding a destination" is be specific about the district (you cant do postcode searches on the Quest 1not sure about Quest 2) So e.g. from "search city" enter the district not the town i.e. wimbledon not london.
