Ok its great that we all have an opinion, and thanks for yours, I was merely saying in maybe a poor way that there are 2 generations and types of biker, I have been in the company of both types over the years and to be honest these types who you say have worked there arses off to afford their born gain toy and pupport to be a biker Im afraid I cant stomach, I still nod to them but I cant sit with them and be talked to in their superior "Look at me" and my label type of way. Gimme a 45 yr old rider who has ridden for years and does 10k a year and I will listen, give me a 2k a year Ducky rider who likes to big himself up then he can go round to yours for tea, talk to you and have cucumber sandwiches while mulling over termignoni this and aircraft grade alloys that. I did not mean to cause offence just an observation and my opinion without such there would be no debate. peace.

I feel your pain. There are some complete twats but they can ride anything! I try to say hello and after two minutes you usually know what type of bloke/gal they are........ No offense taken and I sort of agree with you but its not fair that all 10K bike riders be tarnished with that brush

Glad you guys are friends again. I was beginning to regret starting the thread for fear of starting WW3 (and with Beamish's employment he has bigger mates!!!!)

You might be able to, but could you be a complete juggler as well? Only you will truly know

I got back on bikes after a 12 year absence. Things have changed and a load of poncery does seem to be around. I love the Storm, but only being able to afford textiles and shite boots i have noticed on rides etc that there is an element that will look down on you etc etc.

it's like if i wore knee sliders etc to a bsb meet I would at least make it look like they hadn't just been unwrapped and my boot had at least been out in the wet at least once!

So, I will akcnowledge a fellow biker irrespective.

Well that puts me possibly in the "juggler" club.
I'm a working class boy who's made good'ish. BUT
Then I got the bonus (made by me and paid to me by me) and made the mistake of buying that BMW (bike) a Harley Davidson and of course a VTR all in the space of 18 months and still have them.
So obviously no one will sit down next to me with a cuppa tea.
I'll let others judge who've met me at the workshop days decided if I fall in to the “T” category.

As I see it, at work I don't have to like my customer's just be polite to secure the business.
Out side of work different rules apply.... and as for bikers I'll wave at any one riding a motorized two wheels device even if they don't wave back. I'd say that 99% of riders (Bikers and Sunday warm weather riders) that I have met at clubs, fairs, shows and running my dyno are good people with a common interest. At over 45 I have learned never to judge a book by it's cover (A mistake I have made many times in the past) and some (luckily) for me are now good friends and nice guy's even if they look like they would murder me for a pint when I first met them.

That's one reason I even wave to the kids on scooters as they need to feel included. We have enough enemy's within the EU, UK government and the cycling fraternity who I think want to put more obstacle's in our way to make riding more and more difficult. They have done a grand job in the last 10 years with new riding restriction & stupid test regulations and even more to come in the next 10 years with out alienating our own because they made good.

Anyway I'll have a cuppa with you when we meet and I'm looking forward to some cheep Ducati 1098's next year when their wife says she wants a Merc now not the BMW

I'm kind of with Sling on 'Gimme a 45 yr old rider who has ridden for years and does 10k a year and I will listen' if only because it's the young nutters that get you into grief. There are two types out there; motorcyclists and bikers. Give me the biker any day but I'm not otherwise less friendly to anyone on two wheels (or more) so long as they aren't daft on the road. Scooter boys however don't want to nod! They don't want a big bike when they grow up. No, they want a Subaru. They can avoid the buses and rasp about (on one wheel) like a 'jar of angry wasps' and impress the 15 year olds stood outside the corner shop. And that's from the horses mouth! Scooter boys these days are just passing through so there's no biker connection or camaraderie as such to speak of other than the number of wheels and the lid (often half off on the crown). No bones, just the way they are and that's fine by me.

Mike, same here, fat geezer on a Gixxer, tradesmans butt hanging out of the jeans under the flapping tee shirt, tearing about with a deathwish. He doesn't nod when on the bike but he does when he get's in his car.

If any ignore you, it's quite often Harley riders coming here on holiday.

I have been riding for 51 years. I rode summer and winter with a big box of tools strapped to the back which would throw me off in the wet if I forgot it was there. When I got my first car I stopped riding for a while until I could afford both. I've had them all from mopeds to Harleys done the commuter, the long distance tourer and now it's the sunny days and a blat around the lanes. I always nod but I don't get upset if it's not returned. The only thing that pisses me off is the twats who ride through my village at 60mph overtaking on the back wheel. As long as people enjoy their bike and don't cause undue annoyance to others they get my vote whether they wave or not. It doesn't matter to me if they ride 100 miles a year or 10,000 as long as they enjoy it. Bit like my Guitar playing really I've got all the gear but I'm crap, still it gives me pleasure...........

feature on brighton burn-up and the police presence, mostly stopping nobheads doing wheelies and burnouts on the motorway, and a few with flip-up number plates!
interesting to see their unmarked bike riding amongst the rabble, not giving himself away but in radio contact with the marked boys....

Rumour has it there's an unmarked bike around the Beds area - I suppose to the eagle eyed they would have aerials and stuff tacked on?

Not quite sure where I fit in to what category - nearly 45 but only manage 6-8 k a year (used to be 18K), riding since I was a teenager, love to laugh at all the "got the gear but haven't got a clue" brigade but I don't really mind if people don't nod back. I think a wave means more myself and piss myself every time you see the guy who tries to wave back but can't take his hand off the bar for more than a millisecond I enjoy bikers of all backgrounds and have found tossers in all of them, fortunately, like most things in life it's only a minority and occasionally I still enjoy being a juggler myself
