I have been trying to follow this thread as im interested, well if I wasnt I wouldnt......I read this from the Triumph club, if its any interest to you great if not delete it :D

It's interesting; but slightly off-track :lol:

Personally, I think that they're missing the fact that the inside of an engine isn't a clean environment, the surfaces of every part in the crankcases and also in the heads/cam box are regularly sluiced with oil, partly be design as the oil flows out of bearing surfaces such as the cam bearings, partly because rotating parts fling oil quite forcefully, and it goes everywhere.
This will very effectively rinse any of those surfaces, and bring any solid deposits such as carbon form ring blow-by deposited on the bores back down into the sump and oil filters anyway.

So worrying about carbon deposits or sludge internally is probably pointless.

As regards build-up on piston tops, valves etc, that's what the detergent element in fuel is for.
Or you could try Redex or another cleaning additive (and yes, I know that one member had an unfortunate result having used it- not sure if it's a direct result of using it, though).

What we're talking about here, though, is running a low partial vacuum in the crankcases, and saving engine power because the engine (like all engines) acts as a pump, trying to compress the air in the cases every time a piston comes down, then sucking it back in again when it rises.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

indeed.
anyone who has done any engine work or wants their engine to last will appreciate the benefits of regular oil changes.
how does oil sludge build up on the piston crown lol.... with temps up to 630 C i can assure you there wont be any oily deposits on the piston or combustion chamber!

imo some people post just for the sake of it... there are clearly people commenting on that triumph thread that dont have a fkin clue wtf theyre talking about.
we're talking high performance engines here, not diesel lawnmowers.
tuning always involves some degree of compromise on emmissions, reliability, longevity of engine components.
some of us are not scared to alter what the manufacturer gave us!

another example....yesterday i was looking for port timing durations that the 2 stroke 50cc guys are using on the track & strip... what a load of bollox is talked in that game ffs!
i think 99% of the people commenting must be 16 with their first engine to play with lol... then the big biker brigade, er you don't wanna do that son, get a proper bike.
totally missing the point. i am probably twice their age lol, have been tuning engines (particularly 2 strokes) for over 30 years and have a garage full of 'proper bikes' lol
they dont seem to appreciate the challenge of wringing 20bhp+ from a tiny engine and aiming for 100+ & breaking 10s on the 1/4 mile.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

This reply is just a note to say that I had the top of mine recently 23k miles, and the piston crown and valve heads looked brand new, as shiny as a purple headed hard on...and thats shiny, no marks at all, I assume this is good, for note i change the oil every 2.5k. and have done since it was new. There is no loss of pressure either (said the mot man).

I just placed an order for a device called a Krankvent (http://www.et-performance.com/kv.html#M ... &_CRUISERS). Supposed to work on the same principle as the NAG valve (only at about 1/4 of the cost). We'll see how it works.....
