welcome aboard fella
this is the right time to buy, prices will start to rise in the next couple of months, there have been some nice bikes in the 1200 to 1500 bracket on ebay in the last couple of weeks, i would tend not to worry about the colour, you can get the bike resprayed black very easily, or you can get a set of chinese fairings cheap enough, some forum members have bought them and they tell us the quality is good. that way you could sell the original plastics on ebay, a compete set on ebay will sell for over £200 probably more if yellow because there are alot of strange people out there that seem to like that colour
by a bike for 1300
i think the chinese plastics are 350
sell the oem plastics for 200+
the bike will stand you in less than 1500
and it will be the colour you want and it will leave you more choice to find a bike which has the extras you are looking for.

or you could go for this one, the moriwaki exhausts alone are worth big money.

knock him down to 1350
it's got a bellypan and hugger and tinted screen, if you then wanted to sell the cans to me, the bike would be even cheaper, i think condition of the bike is more important than mileage......

Greetings

You've probably seen this on fleabay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-VTR-100 ... 205wt_1398

Tad high milage but in reality nicely run in... I'm sure it was noted earlier that the pipes on it are worth a bob or two. Plus it looks like it needs the CCTs modding.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Depends on budget, of course, and mechanical ability/aptitude, but also whether you can bothered- for example I'm perfectly capable of working on cars, but I choose not to- I just stick them into the local garage and let them get the aching back.

Once you've decided what you want your bike to end up like, it's easier to know where to start from....

Just one small caution- if you want your Storm to go, stop and handle like an SP1, just buy an sp1 to start with

And welcome
Not bothered about having a fullfat sports bike like the SP + my budget doesn't stretch that far!

Yep the ideal would be to find one with the mods done. I've read up on the cct's and rec problems. I'm ok at some mechanical bits but my brother is a mechanic so anything I have problems with he sorts out.

There's lots of bikes on ebay at the moment but I don't want to travel hours to see one ( I live in Shrewsbury ) and I'm looking for something low mileage. Looking to keep it for a while and it will be a sunny day bike, no commuting.

When I had a honda specialist look at mine he commented that its the lowest milage firestorm he had ever seen, and that it had not evern been run in..... it had 27,000 miles on it when I got it.

these bikes are like fine wine, they get better with age depending on how they are treated whilst getting to that age.

I agree its condition rather than milage you need to look for....you are buying the owner as much as the bike.....does he sound like he takes shortcuts or that he is detail focussed [a bit of OCD is a great thing in a previous owner].

Any firestorm you buy is already old, but if it has been cared for it will have survived well. for example my bike is 13yrs old and has about 30k miles, but looks like new as I dont let it near salt, and I always make sure it is washed down, and every couple of years I will take all the bodywork off and deep clean the engine and frame with WD40 and a toothbrush!!

if the bike is on e-bay, talk to the owner and if he sounds like he knows what he is talking about, it can be worth taking the risk of a longer drive to go see it. and you have to see a few before you are ready to make your mind up, so line up a few just to get to know them

Did you find that one side of your fairing drooped down?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
