Why do you have both a sat nav and a GPS unit on the bike?

1/ So I can have satnav on close up and GPS zoomed out simultaneously instead of swapping screens.
2/ If one goes faulty, I have the other.
3/ Satnav best for directions, GPS best for direction.
4/ GPS has more functions, satnav has better street mapping and larger screen.

I use an even more basic GPS with no mapping, I just program in waypoint [off my PC where I have the OS maps of UK] at every junction I need to make a decision at, and have a basic map on the tank with road numbers and Destination twons inked on so I can read them at a glance.

works great, and has the benifit that you are learning the route as you process the big picture information, rather than a satnav where you just follow low level instructions [turn left, turn right] and you never know where you are!

works for me but is crap if you decide to go oway from plan!

I know what you mean AMCQ46. Imagine what it's like with both though and how valuable it'll be to me doing JOG to LE using A & B roads only.
