Hey guys

I finally updated my profile with a pic of the new beast! What a beast it is...

Qs.... Do you find the front suspension a bit too soft? (Previous owner gave the front forks an overhaul). He also fitted a spacer to the rear shock.... He said it improves handling.
also, I find power peaks at around 5,000 rpm. It certainly feels right, but is that what you guys are getting?

Hope to see some fellow VTR owners on the road soon!

Look is good, glad you are enjoying it.

The front springs are very weak, need to get some weight related springs from any suspension shop and put 7.5wt oil in.

Power peak is 8500 to 9000 but peak torque is between 5 and 6

Alright pal....

Front suspension soft.....If you ride correctly, then not really, as you should be on the power in a bend, therefore no load on the front end. On the straights it shouldn't matter. Uprated springs and oil should give better feedback though. As far as rear spacer giving better handling, IMO it doesn't, again for reasons above. I did try the rear spacer, but removed it and was glad I did. Some mods are an improvement, some not, but if you want to try it, its next to free anyway. I think it's best to set up whats there already correctly before making changes, as you might be able to get it right without alterations.
Twins are best ridden in the lower and mid range, so more than 5000 rpm is rarely needed ( unless you're a straight line merchant ). I find I can ride all day at a good lick, and on twisties not break 4000-5000 rpm. Its all about forward vision and average speed.

Just my opinion though.

Nice to welcome another Southern poofter to the forum. Had mine 11 months, should have got one ten years ago!! We could meet perhaps next Spring, any excuse for a blat, perhaps to Abingdon Honda. Scare ff all those gimps purchasing their shiny new Crossrunners for £12k. When they could have saved £10k!!

With regards to the suspension, Honda built the bike to a budget and the suspension was a compromise. Rear too hard and the front too soft, not the best unless your a 5ft Japanese bloke only weight 10 stone :roll: I found a Performance bike article once that recommends the Bikes settings as
Rear Preload - Position 2 Rebound - ¼ of a turn out from full in Front Preload - 2nd groove showing Rebound - ¼ of a turn out from full in
. It seemed to work for me with the standard setup. It's not ideal but it's better and I intend on upgrading my suspension at a later date.

I also have a 6mm spacer under the rear shock and have dropped my forks 10mm which has improved the turn in. :thumbup:
