Many apologies for the delay in posting - my feet haven't touched since Christmas.

Anyway, just to let you know what happened, I finally swallowed my pride and gave it to my friendly local mechanic, who, after much poking and prodding (and calling in a mate of his who's an auto electrician), found the problem was a short on the ignition barrel. It wasn't blowing because the bike was revving, it was blowing because the bars were moving and causing the dodgy wire to short. Must admit, I wouldn't have looked there in a million years. At any rate, it's all hunky dory now, just in time for lots of snow and ice. Ah well. On the positive side, only 23 days until Spring!
