just to stir it up a bit as I love to confuse :D

and also note that this is not my invention, someone posted on here and when I read it I could see it was a great bit of engineering logic which avoids the ill defined "finger tight" and saves you taking off the front cam cover.

when doing the rear MCCT, you first screw in the adjuster by hand till it is as tight as you can manage [even adding a spanner wont move it much more!], then mark that position and count how many flats on the bolt head you have to turn out to get 7mm total slack on the chain.
then if you do exactly the same operation on the front [set to TDC of course] you will get exactly the same slack for the same number of flats turned from fully in. this is because the datum points are exactly the same for both cyls [the distance from the crank to the cam and the position of the CCT between these 2] and even if the chain is more stretched this doesn't matter as you took this out of the equation by starting from the position where there was no slack.

it is sound theory and very repeatable to get the fully wound in position when the chain goes tight so it has much less risk of error than trying to define finger tight.

sorry, I will leave now

And I though you was going to recommend the stopper mod.

I must admit when I said there's various methods and ways I did think of that.

So what's this have ago at Chris day :p

I have to agree, that bit I wrote about locking the CCT as a help in fitting manual CCT's in process (10) could be now be unhelpful. You have to realise back then 7yrs ago, there was not the information about that we have today on fitting manual CCT's. It was really meant as a guide, a datum point if you like to get you onto fine tuning the cam chain tension by ear.

I'm going to remove that last sentence from process (10), as that topic (How to remove and refit CCT's on the Firestorm) was written by me for just that, to replace standard CCT's. Not written for fitting manual CCT's, although I realise parts of the instructions can be used for that. Also we now have Cybercarl's very well done thread on fitting manual CCT's, including a video even

No offence meant from me at any point, just to be clear
I'm actually fitting some Bazza manuals today, so it's useful for this to come up again.

Now do I remove the front cam cover or....

 no offence taken, I was only messing

If something isn't right it's better to have it pointed out. That way we can do something about it.

It's all my fault you can blame me. :Stick1: At least things are now clear for any future readers that come across this thread while searching for CCT info.

Totally agree I removed both cam covers and it's amazing how much of a difference quarter of a turn either way makes to the cam chain tension....I did alot of research before messing about with the bike and some instructions out there say... As tight as you can get it.by hand does.... Also a friend of mine who has a bike shop said the same I just put them as tight as I can buy hand mate... After doing mine I realise this would be way too tight... Crazy risking either premature wear or cam chain slip for the sake of removing the front cover...
