Reminds me of an Apple product with all that packaging. Very nice watch you have there, a proper watch. Should last you many years to come and also makes a good inheritance thing for any children you may have.

they do go over the top with the packaging but I wouldn't have been impressed if it had come in a blister pack

Your right to say it should last years they are incredibly well made (as you'd expect),and why it's my second Breitling, I bought my first one in '98 (the same year I bought my first VTR ) see pic



I've worn it pretty much every day for the best part of 16 yrs and while it is now showing some signs of wear and tear (especially noticeable when compared to the new one) it still keeps great time and considering it's been subjected to 16 yrs of abuse (general spannering plus welding, grinding etc etc) it's in remarkable shape and a testament to the build quality which is one of the reasons I bought another. And the kids have one each now when I pegged out,


The old one is well overdue a service so when I get round to it I’ll send it back to Breitling for a well fettling, a friend of mine sent his back recently and while it wasn’t quite as worn as mine is it came back like brand new, so I’m looking forward to them working their magic on it.

Re the packaging while like I said it is a little over the top there’s something about Bakelite that’s very special, they used to make lots of everyday items out of it years ago, ie phones, car trim parts loads of stuff used to made out of it. Now you very rarely see it as cheaper plastics have taken over, but it really is a lovely material a bit like synthetic jet.

It was a good guess

i was in the 1989 Admirals cup team as a marine engineer on a boat called Corum we came 2nd that year i think and they gave me a Breitling watch as a pressie. I kept it for a few years and then sold it for £2300 and bought a bike.i don't really do watches, the times on phones now,

It was huge and a bit bling, today probably worth £5k. Nice if you like that sort of thing.

It would probably be worth more than that, they’ve gone up massively in price since '89, at that time their cheapest automatic was £900 now the cheapest auto is just over £3K , the cheapest watch in the current range (quartz movement) are still around £2K, I think a limited edition Admirals cup watch would be considerably more at today’s prices .

Now I do get the watch thing, I have a Seiko pilot watch and a Longines, but how can a quartz watch be worth that much? The works are probably the same as a £40 Timex..

Why would you, when your phone tells you the time to get up, to remember things, to remember to charge the phone battery,
and where you wrist was last seen.

Agreed the whole point for me is that it isn't quartz.

I like watches and always have to wear one, if I don't I feel somethings missing?

wear a cheapo one for work and a citizen ecodrive the rest of the time.
