So basically If i use the standard can its gonna destroy the performance. Back to the drawing board :?
A full bafflectomy would help ie take the baffle out, it's a big can so may even work out better than a smaller aftermarket can with no baffle :think: Your never going to get the best performance if using the original headers anyway. On the note of performance, you do realise that a SSE is for top end gains at the sacrifice of low down. It may not be what your after. But saying that there is always the chance it may work out slightly different (a fluke/luck), it depends on the timing of the pulses amongst other things.

You have to ask yourself if your after performance gains or just looks. If performance gains, what exactly are you trying to achieve. Do you want more low down performance, mid or top. Will other components/mods work against or towards this. The thing you have to remember is an engine works as a whole and you change one thing it has an effect on another and sometimes causing a chain reaction of events. There's a reason Honda went with two end cans!!!

I could be wrong but I believe it has something to do with the relationship between crank position and timing interval between the two cylinders. I'll explain!! It's a 90 degree twin. The connecting rods both share a single Crankpin/Crankshaft Journal and because of this and the balancing of the crank causes an uneven firing interval of 450 and 270 degrees. Don't ask me to explain further as I haven't quite got my head around it, I haven't got a PHD in mechanical engineering or bio mechanics to be able to explain it :lol: but it's do with the throw on the connecting rod/piston relative to the position of the balance in the crankshaft if that makes sense :think: One piston fires, then the engine turns 450 degrees before the other fires, then 270 degrees, 450 degrees and so on. So it has an irregular beat (fire pause pause fire pause fire pause pause fire pause) which gives the beautiful 90 degree v twin sound.....This also backs up the theory on the so called restrictor in the header pipe being there for exhaust pulse reasons. A longer exhaust length for the 450 degrees and the shorter (restricted) exhaust length for the 270 during timing events.

One of the theories for the twins being so competitive in superbike racing was that the spacing between the pulses allowing the tire to recover when powering out from a corner.

that´t for sure. Altough you can do bafflectomy, std cans are quite heavy, so power/weight ratio is always affected.

Single cans look cool, however everything that I have read suggests that they sacrifice performance.

Wonder what would happen if you used two small G.P cans out the same side.

I have seen a few pics of Storms with this done and have tinkered with the idea of doing it as I have a set of R1 G.P cans sitting here doing nothing.

Just a thought!

I am doing the conversion for the look of it. I hate twin cans and the high level ones even more so. Performance gains dont come into it for me. Will give the bafflectomy a try with the standard can and if it dosn't work out then will stick the twins back on. getting new down pipes as I want full stainless ones.

It's not great but when mirror polished it stays nice for ages (well mine has) its a nice copper! Bronze now
The only way to really keep them shiny is to chrome plate them

The ones on my bike aint bud. flanges are rotten and magnets stick to it :o

Bought some parts today for when I get home from my trip offshore for jobs that need doing
Got a for seal kit
new front pads as fork seal had leaked onto the right side
new exhaust studs and gaskets as front cylinder ones are broken
another swingarm so i can get my braced swingarm done.
and an exhaust can originally for an R1
Cant wait to get home monday and get cracking :D

I sure will mate love being in my workshop. Gonna give the 2 into 1 exhaust a bit more thought but defo putting the standard cans back on with the baffles removed for now.
