only ever had standard gearing and -1f +1r, and the latter was great low down, but as tony said at motorway speeds it was tiresome, always felt like the bike needed a 7th gear, it also effects fuel consumption as the bike cruises at a higher rev. not to mention the speedo needs recalibrating, not that I did that bit.

Your always tiresome Marty & there I haven't fixed it for you at all...
Making up since 2007, sometimes it's true...Honest...

Lowering the gearing means losing that long-legged feeling of travelling at fats motorway speeds at less than half the revs available.
OIC , thank you .

I tried a +2 on the rear sprocket, it really livens up 2nd gear which is great fun and does feel like an increase in bhp, but I found I was a slower rider as a result of loosing that long broad delivery with the standard gearing. I was on/off the throttle more and slower as a result.
Standard gearing is spot on imo, it's just the Storm could do with an extra bit of fizz in the motor to make the front wheel a little lighter

how much does this knock of the top end ? ?
Lumpyv,
According to my calculations that I had written down from some years ago, you lose 8mph from the top speed by lowering the gearing with two more teeth on the rear sprocket. That means 169mph top speed down to 161mph. IIRC the increase in rev's is 500rpm higher with this mod,
