Thanks don
I'm prob going to try a US spec cdi first as I can get one for around 50 bucks.
I now have ignition keys so I can at least power up and pake the seat and tanks off.
Failing the US cdi working ill keep an eye on ebay. $250 Aussie will get me an entire hiss set and locks.

Well it has come to just buying a used set of locks, ignition and hiss computer and transponder from ebay.
175 euro shipped from France to Australia. Could be worse.
I was faced with buying a new ignition anyway as the old one was smashed were the lock pin for the steering lock comes out. Plus buying an American computer ment faffing around trying to get it to work with my harness. So now I get full hiss and working steering lock.

I've got a HUGE tip for you Downunder Get a couple of extra keys cut. You can get a normal key cut that will unlock the seat, steering lock and will crank the motor, but it will not start it. Handy to have one of those for working on the bike and only using the HISS key when actually riding the bike. So my suggestion would be get a couple of plain, basic keys cut (won't cost much) and at least one more HISS key cut.
And then when you get this bike on the road we will go for a ride together and carve up some of those Blue Mountains curves and twisties.
Better make sure the guy from France includes the original key :D
Cheers
Don

Thanks don
I got a key cut last week, she turns over nicely. Those stantune pipes are going to sound good!
As a bonus she's only done 60k. Not bad for 2003 bike.
The 98 I have is on 140k.
Meantime while I wait for mr frogie to send me my package I'm breathing some life into the 98 that has sat in a shed for 7 years!
Carbs cleaned and about to go back on. Motor turns, all intake valves are free and it cranks ove fine.
Who knows how it will go!

Just as an indication I bought my VTR '03 model last March with 58,000km on the clock. It turned over to 60,000km a few months ago and I did the big 60,000km service on it including new oil and filter. This motor is as fresh as. It goes like a rocket, no smoke or any indications of any wear on anything to do with the motor. It is worth checking the rear dog bone and the needle rollers in there. They are very suspect to water ingress and deterioration -- mine were in a disgusting position. You will also need to do some research and make a decision on what tp do with the cam chain tensioners. Do a search and you will see the options. I did the "stopper mod" and am happy with the results. The tensioners works as it was designed to with a safety element built in.
I would say at 60,0000km your motor is just run in if my motor at the same mileage is anything to go by.

Downunder,

DON'T EVER, EVER MENTION COLOUR ON HERE. You will start a debate that will go on for months. NO, NO, NO

Some people on this forum think that the colour of a VTR relates to speed. I never really got it from a mechanical or scientific point of view.

That's because there isn't one  It's like the paranormal it can't be proved scientifically but there is more to it than meets the eye.
