Re: Seriously p***ed off
Bloody hell that's the first crank failure I've heard of .
At least it's a easy fix and the rest of the engine is ok .
Lube, no lube, it's your choice .

Wow!mik_str wrote:well, I just got off the phone with the dealer further to a teardown of the engine and the guilty party is.... the crank, which is snapped
Sorry to hear that. Mind you, that is some pretty impressive mileage by our standards. 155,000 miles in our money. I've seen a SP with just over 90 thou on it but yours is the highest storm I've heard of.
Good luck with the rebuild

Re: Seriously p***ed off
The search is on for a new OEM crank. Plan B is a good used one.......

A new crank has been ordered... thankfully they are still available from Honda (!)..... I will get this one balanced to the pistons and rods too, though I will give the matter of fitting an OEM flywheel some thought.....

You may be missing the point.spikenipple wrote:Get an MT-09....I just did
Anyone can just just go into a showroom and order a new latest whatever, there's no joy in that, and at any bike meet you'll see several more exactly the same.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Seriously p***ed off
I suggest you to speak to Roger about balancing the crank (which should be balanced independently from factory), I still think this cannot improve anything, on the other side it can do some harm.mik_str wrote:A new crank has been ordered... thankfully they are still available from Honda (!)..... already done, and it will be getting balanced to the JE pistons and Carrillo rods. Will also be refitting the lightened flywheel.....Stephan wrote:I suggest you to speak to Roger about balancing the crank (which should be balanced independently from factory), I still think this cannot improve anything, on the other side it can do some harm.mik_str wrote:A new crank has been ordered... thankfully they are still available from Honda (!)..... Re: Seriously p***ed off
yes, maybe I missed point or two ... :-) My crank should be balanced as well as you mentioned in my thread (65g lighter pistons), but nobody here do motorbike cranks, so I leave it as it is and hope that changed over/under balance ratio for counterweight will be ok.mik_str wrote:already done, and it will be getting balanced to the JE pistons and Carrillo rods. Re: Seriously p***ed off
Are you sure that's each ?
As for all 4 it should be a tad under $40 CAD .
Have look on here for oem parts and if they won't ship to you send them me and I'll send them on to you .
Could save yourself a few $$$

Re: Seriously p***ed off
I double checked; these are not OEM bits but rather Carrillo bits, hence the cost.....damn expensive any way you look at it, but I am already in for a pile of money so no sense cutting corners now (could possibly re-use the existing ones but with my current luck they'd likely fail soon after the rebuild.....)
BTW, thanks for the kind offer to help
