both have a good "forking"[/quote]

I don't think I'd be getting any "forking" in near future if I woke her up in the middle of the night and asked for a lift :biggrin

Lysy wrote:Great write ups. Thanks guys. When I finally get back home this Saturday morning I'll try to loosen a bit bottom hex head bolts. If they go I'll order new seals etc and then I'll give it a go following weekend if not I'll let my bike shop do it.. What could possibly go wrong? . Worse case scenario : missus will have to give me a lift to work on Monday morning and then pick me up on Friday. She might not be very happy as I normally start at 1am on Mondays but I'm sure she will do it for me. I hope ........... :biggrin
Just make sure the forks are at least slightly upside down when you loosen those hex head bolts; oil will start dribbling out otherwise. I usually loosen them off, then put them back finger tight to hold the oil in until I have the top of the fork opened, fork cap and springs out, then I invert the forks over a drain pan, then loosen the hex bolts and the damper unit should slide nicely out of the fork (you'll want to catch it). The aluminium oil lock piece should be sitting on the end of the damper, but sometimes stays behind at the bottom of the leg.

Thanks Cadbury64. I've ordered new washers, seals and oil.
If it all arrives by this weekend I'll give it a try this Saturday. I'm not getting new springs as I don't know what I already have, the rear shocker was changed for the better one by previous owner so there is a chance that they've done front end as well. Wishful thinking I know but need to check first.

Before you go to all that trouble, Google "Sealmate" and try one of those. I had a weeping seal on the TDM and was about to replace it until someone mentioned this little gizmo. Cheap and worked an absolute treat :D

my fork seals went on my wee divvy so i thought(and thats not normally a good thing) il try a new way.
pulled the forks.
removed the retaining clip above the seals.
winkled out the old ones with a screw driver.
slid the new ones down, popped the clip back on.
popped new oil in.
total time 45 mins.

not how your meant to do them but that was near 2k ago and they seem fine
the older i get,the faster i was

Handy idea for making a cheap fork seal driver. I was going to do this, but the Sealmate worked for me instead

Nice one mate thanks. I've just come back from local bike shop. Lads said it would be around £150 mark for the job including seals and oil. I will definitely give a go myself.

Getting your forks fully 'Rogered' doesn't cost a lot more than that!

Quick update
Unfortunately seals have not arrived yet so it'll have to wait till next weekend but I had front wheel off this morning and tried to undo hex bolts at the bottom of the forks and they are coming out nicely without any problems so it's looking good so far. :D
