Struggling to sync carbs
Re: Struggling to sync carbs
I never worked on my last Firestorm, just a few cosmetic bits and pieces. I never knew what a bitch is was going to be to work on, getting access to anything is almost impossible! My Superduke was about a thousand times easier to do the same jobs on

Good as If you left them open it'll run like crap

You're just finding your way around the bike Mark, once you've accustomed yourself to it, you'll find they are not that hard to work onmellis wrote:I never worked on my last Firestorm, just a few cosmetic bits and pieces. I do hope my hands shrink then Chris! Slightly alarmed to find a rusty thread cutting tool in between the V of the cylinders whilst working yesterday

Re: Struggling to sync carbs
Last thought, front or rear vac takeoff left open after balancing?
Leaving the vac pipe unplugged will give the sort of symptoms you describe.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Struggling to sync carbs
I bunged the rear T-piece pipe and replaced the front bolt, if that's what you mean? I removed the PAIR altogether and bunged the airbox and pipe as per the link above. I haven't ridden it since but on firing it up it was still bogging down and then picking up again.tony.mon wrote:Last thought, front or rear vac takeoff left open after balancing?

Re: Struggling to sync carbs
The front hose from the airbox to the rocker cover can be a pig to seat properly give it a check

I think you might have the answer to all my dramas Lloydie, I'm wondering whether the dramas I had in the other thread were caused by not doing this properly. I'll leave it well alone from here on!mellis wrote:Yup followed this guide:lloydie wrote:Did you block up the little pipes from the carbs to the pairs ?

Did you mess up removing the pairs ?
Re: Struggling to sync carbs
Not sure mate, but I buggered something up! All seems to be running as it was before, although the farts are just as bad they were. I'm really not sure that there's much I can do to it without messing about with the jetting. It deffo runs a lot worse on the open cans.
Re: Struggling to sync carbs
Well after all that it turns out that the carbs were absolutely fine, but the bike was running very lean indeed and that was causing detonation (actual) before the inlet valves were fully closed. Thanks to Kev L I managed to adjust the pilot screws and all is running perfectly again. It was the addition of some very free flowing cans that caused all the misery!

That all adds up and explains why it was worse after your mods and also the flames we could see in the video.
