Just lifted the tank, removed the two pipes from the bottom of the petcock and no fuel coming out

just off the A422 10 miles east of Worcester. normal ride will take me past yours on the A44, but i haven't even been out yet!

that is normal, you need the engine running to generate a vacuum to open the petcock. hence if diaphragm is damaged it won't open

Right so the bike has to be running when you disconnect those fuel lines to check the diaphragm?

Easier if you put a long bit of pipe onto the nipple on the back of the pet rock and suck

Just started it up to see if the battery had died (didn't ride it) started fine, held it at 3000 revs, no fluctuation at all
Am I right in thinking it's not a timing issue? Surely if it was a timing issue, the issue would always be there even on idle
