Re: 20th anniversary meet?
I contacted Honda before posting this asking when the first bike left the factory. I may actually write to DVLA and ask when the first was registered in the UK.
I shall keep it as an option for now with the intention of it being some time in July. If it falls through, it falls through but I will do my best to get information about the bike from those that should know for sure.

If you don't try you never know if you can do it.

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
tbh the age doesn't matter, as 20/21 are both significant numbers, but my bike was a 96. but as mac said it might be that the race team got their bikes first. maybe contact Fabio or yeti, and ask them what year their bikes were first registered. I will try and see if I have a copy of my old log book.
as for not telling the truth, who would you believe. me or a man that denies he has 12 fingers and 12 toes.....

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
Everything I've read states 97-05. So I would go with 20th. Only reasons for the 96 is as has been said, ex rave bike given Reg as per production year. Or possibly an import where they weren't sure of the production year so gave it the earliest Reg they could.
Agent P, what does registered date on the V5 say and is it an import?

Chaps you have to remember that the old style Reg system the new 'Year' plate prefix started in August... So a 'P' plated bike could be any 1st registered from August 1996 till July 31st 1997. The new system has two plates per year.
P reg is listed as 1996 & r reg is listed as 1997....
Prefix Letter Identifier
PREFIX YEAR OF RELEASE
P 1996
R 1997
S 1998
T 1999
V 1999
W 2000
X 2000
Y 2001
New Style Number Identifier
DIGITS YEAR OF RELEASE
00 NEVER RELEASED
01 NEVER RELEASED
51 2001 Second Half
02 2002 First Half
52 2002 Second Half
The Wonkey Donkey is an R reg 1st registerd 01/04 1998 so its a 98 bike but R reg is 97...confused...

You shouldn't be confused MacMacV2 wrote:

IIRC I think where the confusing comes in is stating one year for each registration, when in reality it is could be two depending when the vehicle was registered (as in your Wonky Donkey).Chaps you have to remember that the old style Reg system the new 'Year' plate prefix started in August... So a 'P' plated bike could be any 1st registered from August 1996 till July 31st 1997.
My thoughts are:-
P reg 96/97
R reg 97/98
S reg 98/99
and so on,
Chris.

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
That's why I was asking for the registration date, I have a 64 plate bike that was registered Feb 15. Production is 14 but registered 15 before the 15 plate was issued

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
How about meeting at the motorcycle museum in Birmingham?
They have plenty of room and don't mind groups turning up.

This is a great idea
and the museum is ideal

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
I've always know them as a 1997 model, my parts lists all say 1997 first model year and for Honda it was a 1997 model bike. So 20th anniversary seems right to me.. I had a new Yamaha R6 towards the end of 1998 to race for the 99 season, They weren't on sale until 1999.
As for meeting up I'd be interested if I'm able to make it and it's not too far.

Re: 20th anniversary meet?
Some one mentioned the TL boys doing a 20 year thing. Ironically we could have had a 20th do at the Endurance legends event at Donington in May (and possibly ? had parade laps to celebrate the 20 years).. I did put a thread up but no body was interested

Re: 20th anniversary meet?

i've managed to find a copy of my old logbook, and it seems i owe you lot an apology, my bike was a 02/97. i could have sworn it was a late 96, maybe I got it butt about face with someone else's bike.
but either way it seems mac was right about me....
