thanks for the info, i was lucky it turned out as i managed to extract by welding nuts to the remaining bits of exposed stud..cheekykev wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 12:28 pmIf you go in up to 20-25mm you'll be fine, I went in about 25mm, the stud is very hard so you will need cobalt drills.fatfreddy000 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2018 10:28 am i may have to do this yet.
if i do i will just use straight 8mm stainless threaded bar all the way.

SUCCESS!
i was lucky and didn't have to drill and retapp in the end.
the top stud came out very easily after welding an 8mm nut to it- i think the heating from ark welding really helped.
the bottom stud wouldn't budge and bust a weld twice so i tool a Dremel and Fien tool and cut down the aluminium cylinder boss as recommended and then welded on a nut, and hey presto straight out no bother.
installed 2 lengths of SS 8mm threaded rod and copper slipped the internal part.
split flange went on easy.
it could be tidier but its a dammed site better than it was.
i will be removing the entire exhaust next (should be easy now) to replace the rotten clamps and reposition the hi mount cans so they don't hit the rear wheel when i hit a speed bump or wheelie!
she'll get there in the end- 16 years of neglect by the looks of it..

Re: removing broken header exhaust studs
hi mate,
just noticed your quote about mikalor stainless clamps..
do you know what size range is best for replacing the clamps that couple up the link pips and rear header?
I'm guessing it will be 47-51mm but maybe 51-55mm would be better?
thanks..

It can vary depending on the link pipes (if aftermarket or OEM) so best measure what you've got.

Now write on your calendar to slacken off and regrease spring and autumn.
Glad it went ok.
