That was lucky Rob, I’m looking forward to seeing this project as I have a few(ok 6) Two strokes now and I dare say I will have similar issues at some point. I agree parts are plentiful but bloody expensive

. Keep up the good work sir

its a re learning curve for me

the 80s were a long time ago.
lots of plus points coming outa it, the engine seems to have fresh gaskets all over it so it has had hands on it like the guy i bought it from said. and its still a standard bore engine and no tuners

have been inside it.. some parts aftermarket can be used cheaply but pistons bearings and head gasket will be oem yamaha for sure..
looking at the burn pattern on the heads the we bike has been running spot on with the jetting so its just one of those things.

Yeah I agree using genuine parts for the important engine parts

I’m sure it will all come flooding back to you while rebuilding it. Also nice to know it’s had a well maintained past.

I’m the same, genuine parts when it comes to engine parts and brakes. Very encouraging to hear your findings on stripping the engine Rob

Chris.

Near time to get this bad boy back in one, pistons bearings gaskets blah blah blah all sorted now, just time to get messy and get the motor fully stripped and get my little Elsie back on the road.
to be continued

Motor in half ..and yes the crank seals on both sides have gave up..lucky I stopped as the lefthand side was worse and could have sucked air in..otherwise so far alls good.
