I can remember that was it not Beckham? That was voted by old gits that could only vote on what they saw. Not much bike racing on the box at the time. But that was then and bikes have a bigger profile now. Don't forget that for TV we are only a small fraction of viewers. Lots of bikers don't watch bike racing. If it was a toss up of watching bike racing with no Brits or watching me footie team in a cup comp then football it would be.

I didn't think it was Beckham but I could be wrong, you being a footie fan will probably know more about it than me
As for you watching your footie team in a cup comp instead of bike racing without any Brit's, that's your choice and why shouldn't you, if that's what you prefer

Mate don't get me wrong i go to the Brit GP, Brands Hatch and Donny WSB and BSB every year. I love bike racing. All am saying is that there are alot of people that don't. As you say each to their own.
