Did a wet lap yesterday at very sensible speeds and only a few people out there, but had a full sunshine run today and I can now understand the addiction. Redline in 1st to 5th and holding it to the stop in 6th flying along the ribbon of tar clinging to the side of a mountain.......what a feckin buzz!,!

Only problem is all the 30 / 40 / 50 limits to get round to the mountain, and all the other riders who are out there....some of them are going a bit wild!

Reminds me of when I went over there for work the week after the TT in the late 90s (all the straw and track paraphernalia was still in place). I was doing some work for Manx Telecom, and discovered one of the engineers was a fellow biker. Over a few drinks one evening he suggested taking me for a tour of the island on the back of his bike... I must have been slaughtered because I agreed.

Next night he'd collected together a selection of clothing which would vaguely fit me, and a lid which was a bit small, and he took me round the course on the back of his ZZR1100.

I SHAT MYSELF!

I have no idea how long the lap took, it felt like a lifetime and sub 10 minutes all at the same time (I know, probably about 30!) and took several years off my life! I think that's when I decided I really don't like riding pillion!

Moral of this story is never let a native islander give you "a tour", they're a few sandwiches short of a picnic and are obviously so bored being marooned on their rock whenever the weather is dodgy, they do anything for a buzz!

Anyway boys, enjoy yourselves, stay safe, and we want video and photographic proof of any outlandish claims!

i spent today a cybercarls in fulham, we had the carbs off, cleaned it all up fitted some different jets, got the tps to 530, fitted the plastic cowl under the airbox(it didn't have one before) syncronised the carbs,cleaned out the airbox and polished me velocity stacks, afterwards we went for a ride to see if our handywork had made a difference to the low speed running of the bike, only to find out that indeed it did run smoother at low speeds but it also strangled the accleration, full throttle throughout all the gears felt like it had a 33bhp restrictor kit fitted. i'll pop over to carls in the week and re-fit the old stuff and keep me fingers crossed it revs like it used to. i'll book some dyno time in a couple of weeks. either down in kent or in the east end.
regardless of the end result, i'd like to thank carl for taking time out of his weekend to get get very dirty tinkering with my bike

i to have been wombles with the carbs today
first droped the mains from 190 to 185 - it ran better then i dropped the needles by one clip .
from 4k its a monster but below 4k it has a lean serge so i need bigger slow jets 48s as i have 45s fitted i will get them ordered next week unless someone has some they want to donate

er, you did remember to plug the tps back it?????

i got my front tyre fitted this morning.. (dunlop sportmax) then went for a ride to kais to get the suspension sorted as my c spanner is fooked and wouldnt unload the rear shock.
worth every penny tbh - definately a big improvement.... before i was using all the front travel and bottoming out on heavy braking, with the rear set with way too much preload.
feels much better to ride

been out on it most of the day so it must be better - feels so much smoother with the new chain & sprox on and the lower gearing is absolutely amazing lol - literally breathtaking acceleration and a lot more responsive in 5th & top

also ordered one of those 12oclock labs speedo calibrators - £55 delivered
will review it when it's fitted.

all set for italy on weds now.... cant think of anything else to do to it apart from still got plugs to fit (£22 each laser iridium lol!!!) and clean the air filters...

tps was plugged back in benny, carl spent a fair bit of time trying to get the tps as close to 500 as possible. once we put the old jets back in and see what happens...

BSM Carb settings are now 190 rear 180 front (Dyno jet) and 48 slows and pilots about 2 turns out. Don't know what the clip position is on needles as I have not sussed out how to separate the needle from slide/diaphragm yet.
I'm pretty sure I did connect the TPS back up cause I re call pointing it out to Marty.

But now you mention it Benny, you have got me wondering. I shall do what Tony does now and dream about bike parts, "did I do this" "did I remember to do that" etc. And then strip it all back down again to check, only to realise it's all OK
Had a nightmare of a time getting the diaphrams back together. Not the springs, got that sussed, but getting the outside of diaphragm to sit in it's groove/channel while attaching cover without pinching it is a b8stard. I need to grow my thumbnail more so I can use that to poke the last bit in under cover as I attach it

Quick question: How do I separate the needle from the slide/diaphram? I can see the clip/washer on the inside of the recessed part of the slide on diaphragm end. And I can feel the slight springy retention on the needle, so can wiggle it a bit. Just can't work out how to separate the bloody thing. Does the rubber diaphram separate from the slide part somehow to allow access?

The other question I have is: How many holes are there supposed to be as standard in the end of slide, by the base end of needle as it goes through the slide. BSM's has three, like a square pattern, only one missing making it three. If that makes sense. Is it this missing one in the square that Dynojet recommend drilling? and no I don't intend on drilling a hole, just curious to how may there should be so I know if anyone has drilled one in the past.

Looks like I may just have to put the original 178/175 jets back in. I also put the plastic shroud in under the carbs for the airbox/snorkel etc (this was missing before) what a laugh that was. Could not get it to fit snuggly on the left hand side as BSM's wiring loom has been run on the wrong side, so that was in the way.

Fun and games for another day then.

the needle is held in place with a little plastic retainer.
the stem inside the slide where the spring goes has a m4 thread in the end.
screw one of the carb bowl screws into it and use that to tug it out.
be careful u dont lose any small shims / washers from under the needle ;)

if it has a 3rd hole in the slide, chances are its been dynojetted at some stage and may have been put back to std.
get a magnifier and have a good look at the original jets - it may have already been rejetted!

regarding the diaphagms.... put a smear of grease all round the recess in the carb where the diaphragm lip sits.
this will hold it in place.
i find it easier to wedge the slides halfway open with the diaphragms cupped downwards and placed in the recesses.
then compress the spring into the top and just pop it over. works first time every time

re the tps plug... ive done same myself and been concentrating on other things and left it off... does exactly as described, runs great, very smooth but very reluctant to accelerate ;)

u dont have to strip it to check, just shine a torch under the right side ;)

i'll check the tps tomorrow, to see if we forgot to put it back on, i could have sworn we did tho
