Thanks guys just got to fit new brake lines and sort seized rear calliper and build with new seals stainless pistons, fit new fork seals and a general check over and hopefully it’s back on the road

Gave The Murvinator a run out on shopping duties just a wee run into Strood.

Noticed on the start up when leaving the supermarket a waft of smoke over took me from behind...

As it had used a bit of oil when on the Devon run thought I'd better check it again...

So got home unpacked & disrobed a sweaty mess, quick change, put the shopping away.

Fired up the Murvinator & deff got a puff of blueish smoke from the L/H pipe.

Shut it down & put it away, will check oil level tomorrow when bikes cold, did top it up once since Devon but not sure of milage...

So will note milage & top up if ness & how much goes in...


Ho hum bikes ehhh ?

Weird rasping noise coming from the front of my RD350LC ('82) a couple of days ago and on checking noticed that one of the springs holding the exhaust to the flange was missing so hoping that was the issue bought some new springs to replace. Utter nightmare to fit today, so much so that after the spring hooks bent on a couple of them and the fact they were ricocheting all round the garage, I gave up

In my bike maintenance ignorance I reordered the same 50mm spring I blindly purchased in 2017 as they were described as being for micron 2 stroke exhausts and I didn't know that you should check the distance between the mounting holes to determine the right size...I do remember they were originally difficult to fit!

After a google search today I need 70mm springs to allow a 10% stretch, the 50mm springs that I had originally fitted were so stretched tightly they couldn't do the job they were meant to do and allow the pipe flex slightly in the joint:oops:

I'm lucky not to have cracked the exhaust headers but every day's a school day to the unitiated I guess...hurry up ebay and get me the right springs

Another fuelling test run. I think it'll be close enough with larger pilot jets. The mains and needles seem OK but it's lean on a closed throttle and cruising at 4k.

Fitted new HEL lines to the 31k YPVS only to discover the front callipers are also seized. Oh well all brake callipers will be stripped re painted and rebuilt. When I can be arsed to do it.

had a misbehaving gearbox the other week so picked up a replacement engine that only had 18k on it .
spent the weekend swapping it out and now done 500 miles on it so gave it another oil and filter change .
engine runs well with a slick gearbox . the engine came from a bike that had been parked up for 14 years so needed a little work before first run . pull a lot stronger than my old engine too .
ive got a week off soon so going to paint the tank to match .busy busy busy,

Pulled 'em all out & got stuck in to Neu Red.

So tank back off, air box & carbs to enable the carb swap... Of course nothings easy as the refreshed carb I'm putting on are off an early bike, so the fuel lines are different... The left hand one is 10cm longer, no way is the early one fitting. So 20 mins faffing around removing & swapping...

Carbs back to bike...The extra long one on the left feeds the front carb, I'm standing there thinking why is the TPS on this side... DOH!

Hang on some idiot has put them back on the wrong side...

Back to the bench... Bit quicker swapping them over...

Any how fitted back on, chokes in, water pipes reconnected, air box back on, tank back on...

Turns over had it running briefly, cut out wont restart...

Now I did set the air screws as per the recommended but didn't know if the tick over was set... When it ran briefly it was only showing 800ish on the revs, so turned that up, plus I have to have it running to balance them. TPS was checked 500 so that's cool...

Double checked spark it seems a bit intermittent on the front, so going to try another coil... On another day...

Put them all away & kept the big hammer in the box...

Elsie had went of the boil.bogging low down . Carbs to bits cleaned and when I pulled the pilots they were so blocked with crusty crap I couldnt even poke them clear . I had a spare set .fitted the carbs.(that's always fun) . First kick and it's got its crispy crackle back ..
