I'm interested to know how often people get their shocks (and forks) serviced. My Ape Ohlins was done at 17k miles and I was abused for leaving it so long. I'm on 29k now so maybe I should get it done again.
I think your question although a good one is a bit like which tyres are best. Many will have different suggestions. Some manufactures suggest every 12mths, or if used for track-use-only every season.
In my opinion deterioration of the shock not working so well happens gradually, so the rider doesn't really notice any change, that is until a seal goes then oil starts to be lost to the point of no damping there at all. With Penske shocks being a racing shock, which I presume is the same for Ohlin's? that puts them in a different bracket than your average do it all OEM shock from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki which seem to last a long time before they start to lose oil.
As you are running your Ohlin's shock for what I would call a lot of miles between services, I would be inclined to remove the shock from the bike for a clean at less miles, that will also give you the chance to inspect the Mono's (the fixing eyelets) the bottom one especially to make sure they are still operating correctly,
