Well yesterday to be exact I removed the Penske shock from my Storm, in preparation for sending it off for servicing.

While this is not a hard job to do, when I was lying on my garage/workshop concrete floor (okay I did have a piece of carpet to lie on, Axminster to be precise lol) undoing the bolts at 67yrs of age I couldn't help thinking, how much easier this job would have been to do on all the bikes I had owned over the years which had twin shocks instead of the Mono shock on the Storm

Anyway the Penske shock has been removed, the Maxton spring which had been on the Penske shock has been fitted back onto the OEM shock, and OEM shock refitted to the bike

Chris.

I'm interested to know how often people get their shocks (and forks) serviced. My Ape Ohlins was done at 17k miles and I was abused for leaving it so long. I'm on 29k now so maybe I should get it done again.

I think your question although a good one is a bit like which tyres are best. Many will have different suggestions. Some manufactures suggest every 12mths, or if used for track-use-only every season.
In my opinion deterioration of the shock not working so well happens gradually, so the rider doesn't really notice any change, that is until a seal goes then oil starts to be lost to the point of no damping there at all. With Penske shocks being a racing shock, which I presume is the same for Ohlin's? that puts them in a different bracket than your average do it all OEM shock from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki which seem to last a long time before they start to lose oil.

As you are running your Ohlin's shock for what I would call a lot of miles between services, I would be inclined to remove the shock from the bike for a clean at less miles, that will also give you the chance to inspect the Mono's (the fixing eyelets) the bottom one especially to make sure they are still operating correctly,

Chris.

Pulled 'em all out, checked oil level & tyres on The Murvinator in anticipation of a planned ride on Thursday.

Stripped & cleaned up a set of standard callipers.

Put all the tools away, moved all the bikes back in.

Job done...

...watch this space...

They decided ''Unfortunately, after much discussion we will not be offering you the role, as we both felt that the travelling distance was too far to be certain you would be able to always be there at the correct time.''

It was getting on for 50miles, no big worry for me but it was 12 hour night shifts so add on an hour each way makes it a bloody long day...

TBH I was more concerned with the fuel cost! I'd have to tank up every day !

Anyway never mind I'll keep looking... & thanks for all the good lucks...
