Re: RBLR 1000 2010
I got a text from Richie this mornin ,saying the route was completed at 7.07am well done you guys.
I did enjoy havin a look to see where you had reached on the route, but at one point ,when you were south of Helmsdale ,the tracker was showing as being quite a bit out at sea ,maybe you even had time for a boat trip
Well .......who massaged who's butt ?

Afternoon all,
I would like to say to Timbo, Iggy, Cuppa and Mike you are wellwell ard
and I enjoyed your company for the 340 odd miles that we were bombing along en route to windy Wick (good for getting the chicken strips off the tyres).
You are more than welcome to call in anytime when you are up in this neck of the woods.
It was 6 deg
(Chilly for June) when I got back from Inverness and I was having a look to see how you were progressing as evening turned to morning.
A few things will stick in my mind from the trip, just north of Brora there appeared a matrix sign with the words "OBSERVE SPEED LIMIT" a bloke in front on me
with a big hand, pointed at it and gestured, with tears in my eyes I nearly ran wide at the next corner
Then a bit further north I got stuck behind the Del Fuegos and lost sight of the "pack" however with the greater power of the SP
I managed to get past and caught up with the "pack" again and that same hand gave me a wave as if to say oh you are back, tears in eyes again
Also overheard in the toilets in Tescos "drink plenty water they said", "you will get dehydrated they said", "I have never pissed so much in my life" he said
and finally the gadgie with the FLAG, how many times did we pass him?
All in all a good run and much respect to you all
Cheers
A.M.

Re: RBLR 1000 2010
Guys, as fellow RBLR1000 sufferers both me and wife (Emma who was pillion the whole way round) just want to say a BIG well done to everyone who completed it.
(we got in to squires about 5:10am)
Following this experiment we would confirm that the Firestorm is not the ideal bike for a 1000 mile ride out. Emma confirms that the pillion pad is not the greatest either.
This was our toughest journey so far. We did mugello on the storm a couple of years ago which was a breeze in comparrison, ('cos it took us 4 days). But on Thursday we're off to Assen, on the Storm again, with Emma on the back and if the aches don't improve by then it has the potential to be the final straw ... makeing me purchase an inflatable seat
Some guy did the full 1000 miles in just over 17 hours, not on a VTR but still exceptionally mental. Even at 15 mins per stop, with minimum stops (there were 5 mandatory stops) that means an average of 64 mph.... do-able and call me a cynic ... but I think there may have been the odd occasion whe this guy broke the speed limit. Emma and I obviously never did such a naughty thing as this!
Anyway ..... going back to bed now .... only got up for an afternoon bacon butty.
cheers all!
Neil

Re: RBLR 1000 2010
thanks Mike, congrats to you guys too. It was tough.
We did the anti-clockwise route. The bit from Inverness to Wick was a real killer. The wind was so strong that we nearly piled it into the scenery a few times. We also took a detour and went around the M9 rather than the Forth Bridge, but on the positive it meant that we had already done the 1000 miles when we got to Birch on M62. We heard that Squires wasn't opening until 8:30am so took an hour and half over breakfast before cruising the last 50 miles or so back. We only live about 30mins from Squires but forcing ourselves to get on the bike to head home is one of the hardest things I have ever done.

Congrats to you MacKrell and Your missus,........ in fact well done Girl, siting on the back of a storm for that length of time is no mean feat!!!!!
I have to say that I really enjoyed the ride, there where low points, very tricky staying awake at 80 on the A1 at 4 in the morning!!!, and high points, breezing through Glen Coe on a sunny afternoon and finishing, but all in all I am so pleased I did it. Thanks to Rich, Tim, Mike and Allan for being such good company.
I felt sorry for Cuppa when he left my house this afternoon at 3ish having 250-300 miles to ride home after riding 1000 miles, well 'ard mate
Thanks again to you Allan and your wife for providing the best bacon and sausage sandwiches I have ever tasted, so much appreciated.
Off now to apply a fresh tube of anusol........laters

Re: RBLR 1000 2010
Well done folks, sterling effort all round. And especially well done to Emma, riding 1000 miles is bad enough but doing it as a pillion is just nuts.
Definitely one of these things you do in life that will supply nice memories for a few years to come.
Top marks to Mrs Tattie for supplying the sustenance to keep us going and nice to see Tattie again as well, been a good few years.
There were some pictures taken but I think they're all of us looking like crap and standing about in petrol stations.
Oh, if you hear of anyone looking for some wind I think Wick has some to spare.
Long weekend for me
Friday, my house to Timbos and over to Squires 290 miles
Saturday/Sunday, 1067 miles
Sunday, from Squires to Iggys and then back home 310 mile
And as was mentioned very early this morning, if ever I have an idea as good as this one....ignore me.

Timbo - yeah we arrived on Friday night for the briefing and then went home to assemble provisions for the trip.
Cuppa - man you are hardcore. I couldn't even look at the bike on sunday afternoon, let alone doing another 310 miles ..
Did you meet that total nutcase doing the northern route on the saturday and the southern route on the Sunday?
Makes me feel like a real wimp complaining about the aches, after all we only managed a total (home, route and home) of 1120.

Timbo can't believe you are already gearing up for next year... tbh I think I will give it a go as well but it will take at least 11 months to talk Emma into it again!

Here we go, sh1t picture time.
Tim decided to pop back in for 1 more dump before he leaves.

Friday night at Squires

7.45 Saturday morning, Mike is now wondering if this was such a great idea

The Green Welly at Tyndrum. See, we do have sunshine in Scotland sometimes.

Finally Wick. Tim does a wee dance to celebrate.

Somewhere on the A1 at 4.30 in the morning. Had to stop a few times due to tiredness kicking in.

Not as many flies as you would have expected after that distance.
