Cam chain runs down and around the crankshaft, it could be that clattering against its tensioner blade.
Best start at the top and work down if you need to.

Anything going downwards through the chain tunnel would have to have started in the cam covers, so pull them off and have a look.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Welcome to the forum Darren - commiserations on what sounds like the dreaded CCT initiation, on the bright side it didn't grenade completely, or far from home. This place is a fab resource of info & support - you're in good company :thumbup:
