what I did do was to take a picture of the needle in its natural resting place below the pin stop so I could try and refit it back in the same place .
I also did the same with the rev counter

When removing the needle on the speedo it came off with a carful tug but when removing the needle on the rev counter the pin came out with it :-(

That's a very interesting article, especially the bit about soapy water. It doesn't mention anything about readjusting the needle if it's off. I expect there is either an azimuth (I think that's what it's called) screw or it would be a case of taking it off and repositioning until right.

Nice one Lloydie That bit about the needle position was what I would be concerned about. It never occurred to me to do what you did to find the true resting position. How did you manage to get the needle past the pins?

I just lifted it over it's very easy to do and without damaging it
