sunday-gave it a good glaze and seal
What glaze did you top it up with.
fitted hids so ive now got 2 x low beam 2x hi beam
That looks so bright. The only thing I don't like about it is the way twin headlights only have high beam on one side. I never have quite understood why it has to be that way. I have the same issue with the Fazer.

thats why ive converted it to h4. just get a h4 hid set meant for a car. and theyre cheaper than bike kits.
mine was only £16 including the bulbs lol!

standard sp has h7 single beams with low beam on the left and high beam on the right.
on high beam both lamps are lit.

with the h4 conversion ive now got 2 low beams and 2 high beams - like this
(low beam) yes i know i need to adjust the beam!
Image

before on low there would just be the one lamp lit, so now theres twice the light, as well as it being brighter :)

this is the standard h4 holder - like the bulb base in the firestorm

after 5 minutes with the dremel you get this

this is a removable metal part btw - no need to grind away at the actual bulb... when its modded it just clicks onto the bulb and bobs yer dad. you now have low beam on both sides :)

only other thing to do is make up a lead with 6.3mm spade connector to pick up the high beam live from the right hand side, as the h4 plug will have 3 wires - one low beam, one common, one high.
all becomes obvious when you have the hid harness in front of you

beauty of this is if i decide to change it back its just a matter of unplugging the hid plug from the 2 original h7 sockets and refit the original bulbs.
no mods to the original wiring loom or headlamps.
thought it better to do it like that in case i ever toast a ballast in the middle of nowhere and can only get a standard bulb from a garage

Good for MOT time too. Thanks for the explanation. Very impressive  Better lighting is something I need to do on the Storm at some stage and seeing as HID's are OK for bikes I may go down that route.

I love the single HID on mine - never had MOT issues. I have a "cunning plan" that involves fitting two dipping projector units into a standard headlight bowl. (Dipping units drop the mask to get full beam). I might even fit 2 55w HID lamps rather than 35's (I have 55's for the Jag too). I will mod the dip masks, so the left hand unit will aim slightly left and use the standard cut off. The right hand will have no cut off and aim straight up the road. I just need £200 for the parts....

I had one on an old bike of mine and it was sh1t. Good light output but kept jamming on high beam. I wasn't very popular.
