Audi Q3 with tiptronic gearbox. We wanted one, and managed to get a cancelled order with over 7k of extras, thrown in. And we have traded in ours daughters 05 Golf for it, and given here my Wifes A1.

Got a good price for the Golf and every extra on the car we wanted + a few more bits. Service pack too ( Thats 5 free services basically)

They have an "Event " weekend on (we didn't know) but decided my wife needed an automatic car and nothing where you have to get down into so to speak. A Golf SV was ok but that was 25K and didn't seem to be much special so to speak. Tiqwans (spelt wrong) were ok but we thought we would just check the Audi to see a comparison and it was a cancelled delivery yesterday. It the new shape and the dogs danglees.

Nice car , my wife is looking for something newer and in the same style, bit out of price range though, could maybe get one 6 or 7 years old with about 100k , she's been looking at 2-3 year old Qashqai, Ford Kuga, that type of thing, something easy to get into and practical but Petrol rather than the diesel she's got now as most journey's are short, particle filters block but the newer turbo petrol engine seem to be good with better mpg than older petrols.
We drove a focus 1.0 ecoboost last week and was surprised by the performance form a small engine, it pulled everywhere just as well as our 1.8 diesel, impressive. we don't want that engine but the 1.6 versions should be even better.

What's cheered you up today...?

Polished the bike, and then then went for a run to Inverness to make use of me Burger King Voucher. Yeah, I could have done Elgin (35 miles the nearest BK), but thought I'd have a nice run out on the bike seeing the sun was out. (and meaning the sun would be at my back for the run home - making the road bright with excellent visibility on the way back). Overall, just about 150 miles round trip.

I rode with the sensible head on today (with CKs pictures ingrained in my head), and it paid off. I was followed on the way home by 2 police bikes, from just outside Elgin, all the way to Buckie, where I pulled into Tesco for fuel. I expected to get overtaken at some point, but they hung behind me all the way. Obviously nowt better to do. First thoughts were, I haven't done anything, I'm legal, it's taxed and insured and MOT'd.

As I got into the pumps, the 2 plod were still behind me, and assumed they were going to get off and fill up too. But no. I got off the bike, was lifting me fuel cap and they pulled up beside me. The one nearest flipped his helmet up.....(aww fer fechs sake...what?).....and started complimenting my riding.

"as you hopefully have been aware, we have been behind you for the past 20 mins" Yes, I said, "I noticed"..."and you can't NOT notice with all them whistles and bells and dayglo sh1t all over the place". He laughed.

He complimented me on my road position, my "making good progress" when overtaking (I overtook a line of cars and reached 85mph - with 2 bike coppers behind me doing the same, seemingly right up me butt at times), my line position (where I sat on the road), good awareness with my mirrors (I joked that "OF COURSE I had good observations behind - YOU buggers were behind me..."), my courtesy and consideration with the other road users..." (I gave a wave as I passed a car that pulled in a bit for me to get passed), and not cutting their noses off when filtering back in, but drifting back about 50 yards past. Good positioning on the roundabouts, and impressed with the lack of rear brake light - at one point, he did wonder if my brake light didn't work....

The sun was at my back, the road was well lit and dry, the bike was performing well, and I was feeling in good form, visibility was excellent, and I was sat around 70 - 75mph on the main road, with them buggers behind me. (limit is 60 on the whole road, with a couple of compulsory 30/40s and a 50 limits through some built up areas - which were adhered to, and kept 3mph UNDER when passing through.)

I just said erm, thank you, much appreciated. I didn't mention I have an Advanced rider ticket, or that I have a BMF Blue Riband award. He said "good stuff, and keep it up", and I joked back "for a second there I could have sworn you just said: "get stuffed!"). Thumbs up and off they went. The car drivers looking across, obviously assuming I'm getting a bollocking or told off etc. The woman at the kiosk asked if I was alright! Yes lass, 100%. No worries.

I don't always ride like a loony, and today it paid off - especially when the speed cameras are out in force all over, and Plod has a high presence on these roads at the moment.

From seeing them in me mirrors and initially thinking "oh, here we go....what have I done now?", to a few miles further thinking "strange, why haven't I been pulled already...what are they waiting for"?.....to just forgetting they were there and carrying on riding (but no daft manoeuvers to warrant getting tugged).

All in all, a good day. A good bike ride, fed and watered for free and a bit of a boost on the road home.
