Have you still got that ticking coming from your engine ? .
Please tell me you have done the stop mod. Just in case, better safe than sorry.

Ticking? What ticking? I don't have ticking.
Did you hear something when I was at yours ???

Sheeeet! Now I am worried - I'm going to take a listen today and report back. I sometimes get a 'camchain slap noise' once in a while and it might be a bit tappetty-sounding but ticking? Was it engine speed, when I took off? idling? It must have been loud cos you weren't that close!

OK, Any of you good boys out there got any thoughts?
I've done the stopper mod, she starts and runs well, no obvious faults. Sometimes (rarely) there's a 'hiccup' at tickover speed with a sound like the cam chain might be slapping...Tickover is set at about 1400 as below that it stalls sometimes.

As the stopped mod is a stop-gap safety net in case of CCT failure - If you suspect the CCT has gone then the option is to inspect for the spring breaking and if so rinse and repeat stopper mod with a new CCT - or go the whole hog and replace with manual CCTs for complete peace of mind.

Alternatively fit louder cans so any rattling noises are drowned out

As for CCT's I would go manual cause Honda ones still fail and need replacing. The problem is it's hard to diagnose a sound from description over the internet. As for cutting out, that's more down to tuning. Adjust the TPS and giving the carbs a balance/sync generally sorts this out, as long as the cab jetting and mixture is all good.

Just popped across town for a cuppa with Marty. I did mention in another post that my jetting is not spot on as I have been playing, but my bike seems to be running to perfection. Maybe a little rich (approx 80miles before reserve) but these bikes prefer to be on the rich side. I have her running between 900 to 1000rpm at idle when at full running temp with very minimum needle fluctuations and ticking over smoothly. Mixture screws may need tweaking a tad! 2nd gear low speed is good as there is no stumbles and the torque is there to pull through corners. All in all she's running great  The funny thing is I am currently running pretty much a standard set up and have shimmed original needles. Current settings as follows:

01/12/2012
BMC (street filter)
Front carb
175 main
48 pilot
Needle clip 4th from the bottom
Standard 10though shim
A/F Done by ear
standard emulsion tube
Standard lift holes
Standard Tall Stack

Rear carb
178 main
48 pilot
Needle clip 4th from the bottom
Added 20thou Shim and left out the standard 10though shim
A/F Done by ear
Standard lift holes
Standard Tall Stack

I think that has got to be one of the most enjoyable rides I have had in a long time and that is in the wet. My tyres are superb, very confidence inspiring with great feedback. Steering is so much better as well. The bike just falls into the corners now :D but I do need to replace my front wheel bearing very shortly, it's been on the way out for a while now and the swishing sound I'm getting is telling me to replace this. Oiling or greasing does not improve it by much  Tapered steering bearings will be next as well.

Although the bike is running great I still want to play with my spare carbs, fit FP kit in them and drill/enlarge the main air jets :biggrin
