Although I would, myself, have wiped the tank with an oily rag or polish instead.woaty wrote:nothing wrong with thatJazzscot wrote:Went to the garage and started her, then sat and looked at her like a saddo while she purred at me for a while. Then switched her off and gave the tank a wee wipe

Yep put that there to show an example. I would just do the original ones then you have the added bonus of the timing marks on there as well in case needed. That's a picture of the APE slotted ones
and storminghonda would'ave wiped his tank with your shirt tony......tony.mon wrote:Although I would, myself, have wiped the tank with an oily rag or polish instead.woaty wrote:nothing wrong with thatJazzscot wrote:Went to the garage and started her, then sat and looked at her like a saddo while she purred at me for a while. Wee is probably corrosive.
But at least it's free.....
tbh i dont know yet !cybercarl wrote:A nice de-coke. So what are your intentions with it, are you going to rebuild an engine out the two. Have you tried moving the crank now the heads off. You might as well do a bit of light port work while it's all off. Remove the valves, give them a clean up and lightly grind back in. If I was you I would get the cam wheels slotted as well. At least you have something to play with there then, even if it's just to compensate for any cam chain wear. You really will have your timing spot on then.(:-})
Did he degear the cams or just fit them as is ?adyf wrote:Just got her back from my mate,he is bike mechanic, manual ccts now done thank god, exhaust cams as inlets(cheerz Benny),tps set, single throttle cable, reshimmed, iridium plugs, fresh oil and coolant,New sintered pads,New front Avon 3d supersport and sport rear,oh and pipercross airfilter.took her out sat cold but dry, bike is transformed ,smooth and grunty ,not run avons in yet but grip is awesome, what is it about vtr's? they do get under your skin, bloody thing costs me a fortune but I love it,roll on spring. Yep I picked up a set of cams of benny a few months ago with the intention of fitting the four exhaust cams but not much info out there on fitting them correctly !adyf wrote:Hi lloydie I asked him if he maybe swapped sprockets from inlet cam to exhaust cam but he said he just dropped them in then timed em up,did say not much difference in lift he measured it out of curiosity but different duration, not made much difference, just feels like its running better somehow, ofcourse he was doing ccts anyway so easy to do cams with no chain tension.you thinking of something similar?
