Although I would, myself, have wiped the tank with an oily rag or polish instead.
Wee is probably corrosive.

But at least it's free.....
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

That's a picture of the APE slotted ones
Yep put that there to show an example. I would just do the original ones then you have the added bonus of the timing marks on there as well in case needed.

cybercarl wrote:A nice de-coke. So what are your intentions with it, are you going to rebuild an engine out the two. Have you tried moving the crank now the heads off. You might as well do a bit of light port work while it's all off. Remove the valves, give them a clean up and lightly grind back in. If I was you I would get the cam wheels slotted as well. At least you have something to play with there then, even if it's just to compensate for any cam chain wear. You really will have your timing spot on then. :biggrin (:-})
tbh i dont know yet !

i have thought about reconditioning the heads with a light port and polish to begin with (when funds are better) as i need some tools to do it .
then strip the rest of the engine down and get the bores measured if the cases are ok that is . and have them rebored and fit nice new over size pistons (hi comps if funds are good ) then swap over the crank and gear box from kermit .
but as this will cost £500-800 it might take a wile .

or just get a low mile engine with cct failure and swap the heads .

Hi lloydie I asked him if he maybe swapped sprockets from inlet cam to exhaust cam but he said he just dropped them in then timed em up,did say not much difference in lift he measured it out of curiosity but different duration, not made much difference, just feels like its running better somehow, ofcourse he was doing ccts anyway so easy to do cams with no chain tension.you thinking of something similar? Yep I picked up a set of cams of benny a few months ago with the intention of fitting the four exhaust cams but not much info out there on fitting them correctly !

There's two ways one can go with the exhaust cams. 1: just drop them in and set up with standard timing marks. Which I suspect would be perfectly fine as the exhaust cams are not that extreme, Or 2: get a degree wheel out, work work out when the piston is exactly at TDC and set the pointer on the wheel to zero, get the cam centre lobes set up, do a bit of maths and set at whatever degree you think may work. Then see how the bike rides. It's a shame there is no info out there where someone has already done the testing and worked out what is the best degree for it.

I'm lazy and no good with maths and it's all a bit of faffing around, If I get some exhaust cams I shall just drop them in. I will slot my cam sprockets and then just move them slightly (maybe a degree at a time) After setting the crank to TDC, until I feel an improvement or not. With loads of clearance on the standard piston crown there's probably some room to play safely. After all we know a cct failure will have to be more than two teeth on the cam sprocket before it causes damage.

I'm feeling very tempted to get some and have a play around.

I took off the top yoke and started cleaning it up, then ended up fileing, sanding it, wire wooling it and polising it............put it on the bike and it looked too 1980's :( , to then I sanded it rough again, primed it and started painting it with Hamerite smooth black.

Think it might be a bit cold for spray painting so stopped after 3 coats as it is not covering the edges and the red primer is still showing through!

talk about a waste of an afternoon!

That's what you call making work for yourself.

Spray Hammerite is so pissy thin it will take more than 3 coats.
