That's not good :( And not phoning to let you know it had been cancelled is just rude and very un-courteous. I wouldn't be using them again if they can't just make a simple courteous call, and your getting shrugging shoulders. The shrugging shoulders would wind me up in itself, have they not got mouths. It wouldn't be so bad if you could skive on someone else's time or had an understanding boss, but having your own business changes thing a bit.

Lloyd in the above pic you posted which one is the original and which one is the +4. I'm guessing the original is the top one with the holes cut out in it.

I'm thinking with a couple of splines filed down either side of the gap (woodruff key slot) where the inner splines are missing already it can be moved in either direction to advance or retard.

The one with the holes is standard .
The difference between the standard and the +4 is tiny .
It was very hard to tell them apart without the holes and the number 4 being you wouldn't be able to tell them apart .
So be very carful when removing material .

Looking at them overlayed like that it looks like about half a sprog on the outside. At least with the spline in the centre it can just be moved along one tooth at a time and can always me moved back. There's still all the rest of them to hold it securely in place. So if I filed down the one inner spline tooth on the left it would allow me to spin the advancer to the right slightly. Hopefully that would equate to half a sprog on the outside.

Carl,
there are 24 teeth on the spline and 1 missing = 25 . 360/25=14.4 degrees.

so if you moved by 1 spline you would make too big a change

Brought her out of winter storage at long last.

First i took the starter off and stripped it, fitted a new stainless bolt for the power cable and cleaned it up before refitting.

Took the battery off the optimate, and put some people(admittedly stale) petrol in.

A couple of hits on the starter to prime the carbs and she coughed back to life, warmed her up then put her away again til tomorrow.

Thanks for working the maths out for me AL. That sort of throws my theory out the window then. :(

temple8 good job  something I must do at some stage, though I will probably wait until I have starter problems.

What have I done-
At last found a match for the original finish on the forks. Halfords chrome spray matches a treat.
Guess you all you knowledgeable guys have already discovered that tho.
Tried it on an old bent pair, cleaned them up a bit, sprayed an area with the prep spray then a bit of chrome.Matches a treat
I know - its not the weather for spraying but it was just a test for when the weather improves & I can do my forks for real!

Got my insurance renewal from Bennetts. Buggers tried putting it up from £95 to £110. So I did a moneysupermarket search and H and R will do it for £74.20!
